Hey well, i've been accepted into 2 of 4 nursing schools so far and I dont know what to do...the 2 that i've been accepted into start in January...Neumann and Drexel in Pa, I'm still waiting to hear from gynedd mercy and eastern u. I wont find out about them until feb when i've already supposed to have started at the other two. My question is what do i do? every program has is ups and downs but how do you pick. Drexel has a great rep but i got into the co-op program which will take 3 years and drexel is not cheap, Neumann will take 2.5 years but it's part time evening, less expensive and i can work the same time, Eastern is 2 year bsn2 program but it is like 30 min away and i dont even know if i will get in. Why arent all schools start dates the same!!!!!!!Is anyone else in the same situation? I am very happy to have even beenaccepted into these 2 great programs but how am i supposed to make a choice...Help me!!!!!:o

If it were me I'd probably choose the night time classes that are a lot cheaper and that way you could work. I think being in school is hard enough, with the expence of not working as much, and all the expenses. When all is said and done do you really want to pay back 10-20 thousand dollars when you graduate? That's just my opinion , Good luck with your desision!

I totally agree. Paying back my student loan of 16,000 dollars is the pits. The payments aren't cheap either. I would opt for the one that is less expensive. Altho, it depends on what is important for you.

I'd go with the evening classes as well. But first off: What are the NCLEX pass rates? Are they significantly different? Sounds like Neuman is not only cheaper, but it takes less time too. Good luck in your decision!

Thanks guys for your input, I think in the end it will come down to cost...cause face it no one wants to owe money the rest of their life. It just sucks cause i would love to go to Drexel. I guess i'll have to wait and see what finaicial aid has to say..lol.. Oh, how do you find out nclex pass rates itried a search but only came up with certian school? thanks guys...:biere:

oopps found the pass rates...Drexel=98.8% 1st time Neumann 84% damn drexel's good...lol oh this sucks...lol

I would go back to both schools and ask them what kind of financial package they can give you. I would also look at the opportunity cost.

Are the extra 6 months at Drexel and the pass rate worth it for you?

For Neumann you can be earning money while you are going to school. Are the type of person who can work and do school at the same time?

Are you willing to give up a social life if you are working and going to school? Are there others (kids and so's that are in the picture?)

Is your job flexible enough when you get to clinicals?

Or are you willing to quit at that point and go to school full time?

It's not an easy decision and everyone has to assess what's most important for them. Good luck.

I never did put much faith in pass rates. School is about what you put into it. If you have to depend on potentially being an outlier to pass nclex then by all means, pick the safe route.

In other words, the 'pass' rate is a measure of how well the school brings along the lowest common denominator. Drexel is clearly better at it. But if you don't consider yourself the LCD, then it's not really applicable to your situation.

Personally, I always thought that I could get more out of a program than they intended for me to get.

:balloons: You should feel blessed and lucky that you got into all those schools! Some people could not get in because of the huge number of applicants and small number of slots! Write down all the pros and cons of each school. See if you can talk to some of the current students or alumni. Visit the campus. Then go by your gut instinct. It's usually right. Congratulations!

i agree with this because of the money. The income that you could earn and the less interest that you have to pay back on loans is a big deal. Congrats on getting into the programs, weigh this carefully. What kind of student are you? We know you must be a good one because you were accepted into 2 different programs, but how much time do you anticipate having for study?, will you be able to stay awake in the evening and pay attention to lectures? Good luck!
