things you need to know to be a nurse...
if it moves, rattles, shakes, falls down, or won't stay in place: tape it.

As crazy as a shift can be, remember those pts are people. Never be to busy to show you care.
Made a few "good guy points" today doing just that - had an argumentative pt. that latched onto me this afternoon. Turned out she was scared to death of the staff - so I spent about an hour and a half talking with her & holding her hand. Didn't get my assigned work done, but the rest of the staff (mostly) was singing my praises - 'cause while I was keeping her occupied, they could take care of the rest of the pts.! Made a new friend as well - always room for one more of those!

I have ones that are more serious. Know that when you become a nurse, kiss your family good by, that the job is a life long commitment. That for the first 10 years or so. There are no things called holidays. You will work sick at times. that you will get no applause for saving someones life, If you are female you will be the target of some male doctors. You will be called stupid by them for their own mistakes. That you should have brought the problems to the supervisor attention as soon as a patient sneeze, That you have to dedicated every waking hour to keeping up. You have to admitted patients die and rule number one you can't change rule number one. I you are ready for this life- go for it.
