Things you'd LOVE to tell coworkers...and get away with it!

Published

Please don't label this thread "negative". It is meant to be fun.

Your scrubs are ugly.

I don't think you are "cute" when you get all googley-eyed and giggly around the young docs. I think it makes nurses look bad.

I cannot BELIEVE you were nominated for A Daisy Award! Did you nominate yourself?

It's called deodorant, use it.

Do your own assessment and stop badgering me for every single detail during report.

I swear I am going to put Ex Lax all over my lunch so the next time someone calls out for the runs, I will know it is you who keeps stealing my food!

Yes, my stethoscope is nice and it was expensive. Buy your own.

No time to help me turn my patient, huh? Yet, every time you need help, I have been there for you.

Your situational awareness sucks. While you are browsing the latest deals on the internet, I am drowning. Look around and help out your coworkers.

I'm happy you look rested and ready for your shift. Next time get here 15 minutes earlier so I can leave on time and be rested and ready for you.

No, you don't ALWAYS get the crappy assignment. I don't think you'd be happy with ANY assignment.

If you're sooooo sick of this place- leave.

I am never late for my shift, barring unforeseen acts of God (which actually has never happened but it could, I understand) so I would appreciate if you didn't waltz in here at 1 minute until I have to clock out then act like I'm a jerk for having to clock out then come upstairs and CONTINUE to work cause you couldn't show up on time, and no, I do understand it's hard to get up and be at work at 7 am, do you know how hard it is to be here all freaking night? Get over yourself, I'm tired too!

NO, I will not take the admission that came in 3 hours ago, or the one that came in 5 minutes prior to my shift change, I'm NOT staying late to do this for you. Do your own work, I DO NOT pass on much to you ever, and I don't expect you to stay late to finish everything

When I come in and you're chatting and laughing, then hand me a pile of work to do, you bet I'm gonna say, why didn't you get any of this done? You're not working now. Seriously.

HOWEVER- if you stopped eating constantly at the nurse's station and chatting with the other nurses ALL DAY LONG you know in some foreign language, laughing loudly and being extremely rude, and ignoring call lights while I run around and get them, or ignoring patient needs in general, you might be able to get more done...

Your charting makes me sick, learn English and how to spell. There's spellcheck for God's sake.

Also, I don't know what you're saying, and sorry I have to ask you to repeat yourself, but I only speak English and I dunno what the heck you are trying to say, your broken English and thick accent make it hard. I am not racist, but I need to know what you are trying to tell me. I also HATE when you talk in some other language with someone else right there in front of me, RUDE.

Your report is pitiful- I want to know more than just "she is okay." No, actually I am not here every single day and I don't know all of these patients, so just give me a report. Since you didn't do any treatments or chart anything or read any charting and you didn't do any work all day basically, I know you don't know anything about the patients..

I have twice to 3x as many patients as you do on night shifts, so no, I don't have time to do this stack of work you left for me, and NO, just because I'm on nights doesn't mean I'm having an EASY time.

I don't want to hear about your kids, ever, period.

I don't want to switch shifts from 12 hour days/12 hour nights all the time, I have enough trouble sleeping as it is

I don't want to switch shifts with everyone constantly either, if switching involves giving up a day for or breaking off my days off, you can almost bet I will say NO. I don't mind helping out. But 3 days off is really only 2 when you work nights and sleep all day the first one you have off.

I really don't wanna hear your ghetto rap cell phone ring tone, shut it off.

I don't care that it's "not your assignment" I said, go get the patient off the toilet, or keep them for falling for 30 seconds until I can get there, it's your job and I never ask you guys to do hardly anything, thanks, nurse aide.

I don't want to date you, I am taken, thanks.

If you didn't do something, don't sign off like you did then i come in there and see it's not been done.

I would appreciate if you check expiration dates and stocked up supplies once in a while, I have work to do too and I always leave it neat and stocked for you.

Don't leave stuff sitting for me to find and do, it's not fair and it's negligence, plus it really ticks me off.

No, I will not come to a meeting at 9 am. I work nights, reschedule or screw off.

Dear Doctor- I know what I am doing and I am here all day unlike you who is here for 5 minutes. You get mad when we bother you, you get mad when we don't. I always notify you of anything significant, even if you disagree, it's better safe than sorry. No, I'm not gonna call about needing MOM but if my patient has an issue, you will know. Stop acting like you're the only one who works or deserves family time or knows anything.

To the coworkers I've laughed with, cried with, worked hard with, helped, or been helped by, I love you, you are great. To my aides, you help me, I love you. I know you work hard and appreciate all that you do.

-sigh-

Load off my chest.

Also, don't chat with other people during giving me report or counting narcs or whatever, it's rude and not helping, it can cause a mistake or omission of important information, plus it wastes my time and makes me mad.

Specializes in Psychiatric, Med-Surg, Operating Room.

Well I'm a new grad still in the generic phase of orientation but I've managed to come up with one that's really been irking me.

***Stop telling your business to everyone. Is it really necessary for us to know that your ex-spouse abused you, that your kids want to drop out of school..have you no discretion as to what should and shouldn't be shared with your co-workers. And not really co-workers because you're a manager. And oh yeah, please stop with the "Well at my last job, we did x,y, and z". Okay so what's your point? You're at a new job and things are done a little differently.

When I or other techs call you to report that your patient's IV is beeping, or that he wants a pain pill, or complains that the K infusion you improperly set is burning his veins, don't yell at me that you are busy doing a dressing change or inserting a NG tube. I am not asking you to drop everything you are doing and silence a pump alarm; I am just letting you know of issues with your patients that I am not permitted to solve. When and if you address them is up to you but understand that as a tech I have to report them to the assigned RN. Instead, be happy I am keeping an eye on your patients. I don't have a license to which a complaint can be made against; you do.

Specializes in OB (with a history of cardiac).

To the PCA's on my floor on my shift: I love you. You guys rock my chocolate world.

To one particular PCA: I lub you...but lovey, you're not the nurse. Trust me, I know what I'm assessing...her BP has been kinda low for the last few shifts. Love, please don't loudly second guess what I'm doing in front of the alert and oriented patient- I'm happy to tell you what I did and why when we're not in front of a patient...no I'm not going to show you how to work the IV pump. You don't need to know how to do anything but push the "silence" button.

Also, don't chat with other people during giving me report or counting narcs or whatever, it's rude and not helping, it can cause a mistake or omission of important information, plus it wastes my time and makes me mad.

No kidding!

Folks, I know you need the Pyxis and we all have to wait.

No problem.

But please don't try to chit-chat me up while I'm pulling.

I almost always make a mistake.

While that mistake is always fixable at the Pyxis, it is time consuming and throws of the flow of things.

I don't talk when you pull.

Please don't do it to me.

One day, I will get into management for the sole purpose of getting your head on a platter. Haha.

Specializes in LTC.

Oh. My. God.

Of your 12 patients, you have gotten TWO, exactly TWO of them changed, and dressed... and you've taken five hours to do so.

I've yanked you in from 'smoke break" 6 times already, and the last time, you started screaming and crying and telling me I was treating you terribly. When I wrote you up, you cried all over the place and told the supervisor that I was terrible for your nerves. She wasn't terribly impressed.

You've failed to ever, ever do this job even halfway decently, how... how do you still have a job?

You are a lazy a**. I would NEVER have you for a nurse for either myself or my family members!

Specializes in ortho, hospice volunteer, psych,.

i've never had to work with you (thank heaven!) but if you don't start giving my husband his scheduled pain meds when they're scheduled, i'm going to shake you so hard your teeth will rattle! stop telling him he'll become an addict if he takes them "that often."

Specializes in Orthopedic, LTC, STR, Med-Surg, Tele.

Stop cancelling yourself for half of the shift. I work 12 hours. You work 8. Did you ever think... maybe HalfMarathoner might like to come in at 11pm, instead of excusing yourself at 7pm because "everything's done!"

god i hate when a whole group sits around while patients needs to be turned/repositioned, changed etc and get angry or complain loudly and agressively if you ask for help. as if i am intenitally covering the patients in poop. TO the cnas IT IS YOUR JOB to help.

AMEN!!!!!!!!!

:yeah:

And shame on management for tolerating this!!
