They Think I'm Working Christmas??

Published

Ok so where I work they apparently don't tell the staff what they're working Christmas because they don't want to hear the moaning...(?). Well that has annoyed me already, but I had calmed down because I'm already working Sunday from 7pm-7am....so thats Christmas YES??

Well I go into work last night and there is the schedule. I'm working Sat and Sun 12 hrs ending Monday am and they have me down for going back for 3-11pm???? WTH??

Now I'm really worked up. Annoyed. Pissed off..you name it.

I ask the staffing coordinator and she says some nonsence about Sunday night not counting and she had to put me on Monday also..maybe I could switch with someone "LMAO".

Now mind you, I've asked all my kids and their families to dinner on Monday. I figured I'd go home, put the turkey in and nap. I'd be fine yea? Well NOT IF I have to go back to work.

I am not cancelling Christmas.

I left a note under the staffing coordinators door stating that because I cannot come back on Monday without any real sleep AND they failed to let us know so we could schedule our LIVES I was not working monday. Thank you very much...

As expected my phone just rang. DON.."Joanne give me a call so we can talk about the schedule." I didn't answer it!!!! I know I'll have to call back..eventually, but shes going to say "Work or be fired."

Thats the way its done there.

This is crazy! Why do they think we will continue to be walked all over? I was scheduled to work Christmas, after volunteering to work ALL the other holidays and only asking off for Christmas. Took it to our "Acting NM" and she tells me too bad. It's sooo convenient that our new RN's were taken off orientation after the sched was posted so they aren't working the holiday even though they are new. I have put in my time of crappy schedules and they get off???!! But we have so many travelers because our previous management was so horrible that people left, and they can't pay travelers holiday pay so they schedule the rest of us, and there aren't that many left.

Just wondering how things went - thinking of you and hoping for the best.

Well they took me off the schedule. Good thing because I was not going to come in perioid.

They put me on New Years Day 11-7a...I can deal with that.

Thanks for your support!

I'm glad to hear that things worked out for you,....maybe there is hope for us afterall,........good luck to you!!

I think this is bogus. You are right. What right does a facility have to say that 7pm-7am is not counted as part of Christmas day. That is like saying that beacause you work the graveyard shift you are not counted as part of the staff. And then to rub more salt in your wound, you are expected to come back in for 3-11 shift. You go girl! Stick to yor guns.

I also work the night shift.

It stinks that no facility I know of counts Eve as a holiday, either Christmas or NY. I guess the good part for you is that you can have an early gathering and/or church attendance on Eve and you will have either C Day or C Night free, depending on when you sleep.

Our facility starts counting the Christmas holiday at 3pm on Xmas eve to 3pm on Christmas Day. I always worked Christmas day pm's so other than a free meal for dinner I didn't get holiday pay.

My hospital counts (for night-shift people only) the eve of any holiday AS the holiday. If I work 11p-7a starting the night before Thanksgiving, I AM working the holiday, and get holiday pay. I worked Thanksgiving night, so I didn't get extra pay, but the night before I got holiday pay for NOT working :)

Christmas, New Years' same thing: for those who work the day shift or evening shift, the holiday is the day the calendar says. For those of us who work 7p-7a or 11p-7a, Christmas Eve is our holiday pay, New Year's Eve is holiday pay, regardless of whether we're scheduled to work (coming IN) on the holiday date itself. So if you work both, you only get paid for one holiday, of course.

Works for me!
