They Think I'm Working Christmas??

Ok so where I work they apparently don't tell the staff what they're working Christmas because they don't want to hear the moaning...(?). Well that has annoyed me already, but I had calmed down because I'm already working Sunday from 7pm-7am....so thats Christmas YES??

Well I go into work last night and there is the schedule. I'm working Sat and Sun 12 hrs ending Monday am and they have me down for going back for 3-11pm???? WTH??

Now I'm really worked up. Annoyed. Pissed off..you name it.

I ask the staffing coordinator and she says some nonsence about Sunday night not counting and she had to put me on Monday also..maybe I could switch with someone "LMAO".

Now mind you, I've asked all my kids and their families to dinner on Monday. I figured I'd go home, put the turkey in and nap. I'd be fine yea? Well NOT IF I have to go back to work.

I am not cancelling Christmas.

I left a note under the staffing coordinators door stating that because I cannot come back on Monday without any real sleep AND they failed to let us know so we could schedule our LIVES I was not working monday. Thank you very much...

As expected my phone just rang. DON.."Joanne give me a call so we can talk about the schedule." I didn't answer it!!!! I know I'll have to call back..eventually, but shes going to say "Work or be fired."

Thats the way its done there.

I love how some facilities support their staff.

Never mind that its Christmas..

How can you expect anyone to pull 2 12 hour shifts in 2 days and then turn around and pull another shift less than 8 hours later.

I work 12 hour shifts 7 days on then 7 days off, but thats my regular schedule that I have gotten used to, planned out with 12 hours in between for sleep. :nono: Come on people even pilots aren't allowed to work those crazy hours without so many hours of rest.

Now they don't want to tell you what your schedule is until 3 days prior to a holiday because they don't want to hear the complaining.

Simple solution

Get the leave requests in 30 days before the requested days off and you won't have to worry about it. Leave request not in on time..no leave given. Gee how simple does that sound, its been done at every other place I have worked at. If these people can't straighten out the complainers by setting a sensible policy that works for everyone (and sticking to it) then mabey they should come in and work that shift or find work elsewhere

The new UFCW contract is different, all you get for holidays is based on the average hours worked of the previous six weeks. My daughter works for Safeway, she will only get straight time plus 2 hours holiday pay. My son works for Albertson's, he'll get at least 6 hour's holiday pay because he worked more hours.

My brother in law was able to retire early because they offered him and those like him (long time employees) sweetheart deals to leave. He got a lump sum and draws close to $3K a month. He's still relatively young and very healthy and there's nothing stopping him from going out and getting another job- other than the fact he's enjoying his retirement too much. I only wish it were me!!!

This is horrible! How rude of them! I worked Thanksgiving, as I always do since my daughter's birthday is Christmas and I like to have it off if at all possible. I work tonight, and I worked last night. No problem; it's my weekend and our night weekends are Friday and Saturday. Well, I found out I am scheduled for next Sunday. I didn't even work Sundays! I say "didn't" because I look further into the schedule book and the staffing coordinator has changed my days by adding TWO extra days to my permanent schedule. I was casual/per diem now I'm part time. She didn't even ask me! I work another job! It's SO messed up how people take liberties with your time; like your life isn't important. I'm going to suck it up, because really there is nothing I can do because I love this facility- it just sucks when your employer takes advantage of you. My heart goes out to you. I hope everything works out in your favor. Merry Christmas!

"... End Of Shift Report

All targets met, all patients satisfied.

All staff are eager and enthusiastic to return for their next shift.

I LOVE THAT!! ha ha ha!

I am really glad that you are sticking to your guns and not going in. They know they are wrong and that they are trying to take advantage. And you are working CE and part of CD which is more than fair. And telling you that Christmas Day doesn't start until 7am is a crock of crap. Here in the civilized world the new day begins at 12am. ;)

call out with "exhaustion."

I wouldn't recommend calling out. That hurts your co-workers more than it doesn the manager, and could get her fired with no reference. I'd just flat out say, "sorry, you should have given me some notice, I can't make it."

If you can afford it, put your resignation in, too. Then I'd let HR know about the little stunt as well. Managers who make decisions solely for their own convenience don't tend to last too long.

I do it all the time and it is horrible. I am looking for another job. Hopefully, since they terminated another nurse, they will manage to put me on one shift instead of bouncing all over the schedule...it is going to mean a lot of overtime though. I am hoping another job becomes available soon!

Gosh, sounds like my facility. If it were me, I'd tell them where to stick it. Matter of fact, I did. They wanted me to work tonight (I'm on 11pm to 7am) and I told them no way. I have small children and its my scheduled night off. I ain't coming in and don't call me.

I know another nurse who told me something valuable. "With my license, I can walk outta here today and have another job someplace else by the afternoon." I'd find another place of employment.
