The Washington Hospital Center RN Residency program February 2011

U.S.A. Washington DC

Hi,

I went to the interview today. I inteviewed with a nursing manager from a med/surg unit. Does anyone know about the other managers that were not there? Also, did anyone find out what the starting salary was? I thought that this might be a nice blog to start to share ideas and information about the upcoming program.:p

What the heck do I have to do to get an interview! AH! I live here and take my NCLEX Tuesday and I haven't even gotten a call. I even had someone who works there who was very kind to put in a recommendation for me. =( How depressing!

Sorry....I have no idea how they are selecting individuals for interviews...I just randomly applied to the job last week and they sent me an email asking for some information and then another one asking to set up an interview. Have you called HR to see if you could check on your application status?

I've checked my application status online and nothing has changed. And I applied well over a month ago

I don't know why I got picked. I am 33 with very little work history (stay at home mom since 21) and my only medical related work experience was at a vet 10+ years ago and I graduated from an ADN program. It is my first and only interview out of 55+ applications though! :yeah:

I am not sure what their filtering process is regarding inviting people to interview. I will tell you that I totally trumped myself up on my application (everything completely true). It is the one time in life that you have to express how awesome you are even if you are normally humble /shy. I made sure they knew that: I was my senior nursing class president, won first place in a nursing poster contest, was chair of the pinning ceremony, treasurer of the nursing club, scored in the 99th percentile on the exit HESI, had a 3.81 gpa, Phi Theta Kappa and blah blah blah. I also had a personal experience that inspired me to become a nurse that I expressed in my cover letter. I really hopes this works out because we are a single income family and my husband's job of 13 years is in serious trouble! More than anything, I need the health insurance b/c we have a daughter who is a cancer survivor and needs ongoing monitoring and scans.

I do wish the best of luck to all. In the DC area, as new grads, we certainly need it!

I just found out yesterday that I am am interviewing next week (the 2nd). I don't even take my NCLEX until the 12th and it is in MD! Does anyone know how that is going to work? I told them in my correspondance that was the situation so they are aware of it but is it possible to get my Maryland lic and then DC lic. between the 12th when I take my exam and have it by the 22nd to start? If I get offered the job, of course!

I thought DMV were among the compact states, meaning if you obtain licensure in MD, you can practice in DC (or other states that fall under the 'compact state' endorsement) if you'll be living there. I would call the MD BON to inquire about this as I do not think that they can refund you once you pay for a separate DC endorsement licensure.

Hi herowneulogy! I had my int this past wed, got a call with a job offer the very next day! And on friday I went to the DC Dept of Health with my Fl license, 2 passport pics, and a $280 money order and I walked out that same day with a temporary license. (I have to wait on my background check) but the license if good thru april ... So!!! Florida is not a compact state and it was a one day process!!! So I really don't think you should sweat it!!!! Plus at the hospital they are super understanding and as long as ur endorsement is in process and u have the temporary letter you are okay. Good luck to you guys interviewing on the 2nd!!!!! The people are super nice and its a very relaxing atmosphere!!!! Bring a snack... I was there for almost 3 hrs... -_-! And just be yourselves!! I'm sure you guys will do great!!! Now I have to get crazy and find affordable living! If anyone has any advice on that please let me know!!!!

MD and VA are compact states- DC is not. You need a separate DC license.

Is this residency program the same as the "Ryan Residency" that is referred to on one of their job postings?

They are talking about the New Grad Residency. I'm pretty sure the Ryan Residency is a different program, and in googling it, it appears to have something to do with Ob/Gyn, as best I can tell.

hi ccmg, I'm also from florida I moved to D.C about 4months ago and i got into the residency program last month, let me know if I can be of any help

Hello Rndre3000! Right now I'm mostly trying to figure out an affordable/safe place to move to... And well something near the metro or with buses to the metro because I won't have a car... Do you have any pointers or advice?

DC is not a compact state....MD and VA are check out NCSBN
