The waiting game...

Published

Who else is on waiting on a nursing school spot? Where are you on the waitlist at, and how long have you been on the waitlist?

I'm on the MCCD waitlist, have been since the beginning of the year.

Specializes in OR, Telemetry, PCCU, Med/Surg.

I'm still working on my pre-req's and will be done with those by late April next year. How many community colleges of your choice did you put in on your application?

I really hope I'll get either VERY lucky or maybe get into a program through a partnership. Good luck to all!!

Sorry to hear that you have been waiting a while Hollybop. I still have about a year of pre-req's to go and sometimes I feel like I will never get there. There is nothing I can say to make the anxiety go away but I do wish you the best of luck and I hope you get an acceptance letter soon. HUGSJulie

Specializes in none yet.

i applied october 23rd 2006 provisional and just got placed to start in jan 2008

I put 5 each semester. At the rate this waitlist is going I kinda feel like I'll never get in. Right now I'm just crossing my fingers for fall '08!

I am still listed as "provisional" and I applied in Oct 2007. I just finished my last pre-req on Dec 12, 2007. I am not sure when they will be updating the statuses with the new changes they have in place. I am trying to figure out what I need to do instead of whittling my thumbs.

I applied in Oct 2006 and was scheduled to start at Glendale CC in January. I turned down my slot so one should be opened up there for Jan. I got into Yavapai College and go to the Camp Verde campus and just finished my first year. I only have a year to go. Definitely look around if you have options to not stay in Phx. as you can get in sooner with the same pre reqs.

You got in right away? Or is there still a waiting list, just a shorter one?

I got in first time when I applied in Oct 2006, I applied to several colleges. I started Yavapai in Jan 2007 and hope to graduate in Dec 2009! They have a different entrance exam than the NET, it is called the NLN (national league of nursing) entrance exam. It was more difficult than the NET but not as hard as the HESI entrance exam in my opinion. I applied to places that required one of the 3 tests, so I have taken all the entrance exams. I got in to Pioneer Community College in Winslow and Yavapai College (they have a Prescott and Camp Verde campus) for the January after I applied. I chose Yavapai because they have a good reputation (look at the pass rates on the board here) and it was closer to me. That is why if you are mobile and can be flexible about where you go, I would apply all around. You also have Pima Community College down in Tucson too. We have a girl in the class behind us who drives up from Anthem everyday for school. She didn't move, says it is about an hour and 15 minutes. Good luck!

Ahhh, the waiting game! I applied in Mar of 07 and am still waiting to hear anything. Holybop, when did you apply? What are your choices? Seems like those who choose the "right" college may get in quicker, but no one will tell you which college doesn't have as many applicants. I definitely feel your pain though with waiting! After reading this thread, I think I might look into applying to the colleges they listed.

Speaking of which, do they charge you an "out of county" tuition? I don't know how all that works...

Stay strong Holybop!!!:pumpiron:

*sigh* I'm with ya.

I got my app in June 07. My advisor had told me to expect Fall 08 entry, but its looking like that may not happen. I called today and they told me its an average of a 3 semester wait. Ugh. I'm still hopeful...but that just crushed me today. I don't want to be out of school another semester!!!

I would like to be that one step closer to starting my career and my "adult" life.

I am hoping I got my application in right in time to get into the Fall 08, but who knows!?!? I wish they would just tell you, but I know they can't with that many applicants. I just started volunteering at Banner Estrella in the Womens and Infants Services and I have found that it helps to ease the pain of waiting because you actually feel like you are doing something to better yourself for this career. Maybe you should look into that? It's fairly easy to get started and the rewards are great! Not to mention when you do look for a job, it will look great on your resume and I am hoping it will help me get into the Banners Nurse Fellow Program. I really want to go to Estrella Mountain for nursing because it is the closest to me and would mean less gas!!! Hang in there fellow waiters, we will get there eventually!
