The 1st check as an rn....yay!!! Or nay!!

hi lovies!!

i was just wondering, what did you guys do with your first check?? and how did it feel when you received it?? was it like.."oh yes sooo worth it!!!":lol2: or was it more..."blaaahhhhh":crying2:...

i wanted to know because throughout nursing school i've been working as a medical receptionist and making $17/hr pays the bills but its pretty "blah":yawn:...if/when i get hired at my facility as a rn (when i get my licsence)...the starting range is between $32-$34....:yeah:

when i get my 1st check as an rn i want a new wardrobe:monkeydance:...no more sweats and tees for me!!!! then of course save to buy a house since i'm sure taxes are going to rape me since i have no kids, i own nothing, and i'm 23 years old.....

so.....what did you guys do with your hefty or non hefty check???? :hpygrp:

well first of all I want to know what facility you looking to work at and wheres it located? LOL Been out of nursing school and graduated from eastern KY college and only started out at $15.81 in a hospital float pool! LOL $32.00 per hour is the most I made since graduating in 2007 and that was doing dialysis travel nursing! But So my first check was surly a blaah!!!

My check is not so yay as yours! It's good money for the area but not the kind of lifestyle upgrade if I'd been making that sort of cash ten years ago.

My first one went to bills, some MBTs for me and the sig. other and concert tickets. I'm allowing the first couple of months to be bills and catching up on stuff we've been wanting/needing but putting off (some fun stuff like the concert but mostly practical things like glasses and clothes). After we cover all the stuff we've been needing I'll be putting whatever I can in savings. We're looking to move in the next year and will either need cash for a downpayment if we stay local or moving expenses if we relocate outside the area.

Graduated in Dec 09, Passed nclex on March 10 2010. Started my new RN job in May my first pay check was sure YYYYAAAYYYYYY. big difference between 15/hr and 40/hr. I did thank GOD the almighty for his Grace. My thought was that all those sleepless nights were so worth it.

Wow, Maeva! $40/hr? Man. I was just hired and feeling pretty thrilled about $24.80/hr. Central WI, though, so a nice house is about $150-$250K...

sunshine9403RN...I work at Valley Hospital in NJ...pretty expensive place to live but luckily I still live with mom...and she's not getting rid of me any time soon hehehehe....

I guess our sleepless nights of studying...dark circles under the eyes...and nights of feeling helpless does pay off....I can't wait for my 1st check!!!!!

Seriously - I want to know myself! At 36 hours a week - that's over SEVENTY-FIVE grand a year - folks with MBAs don't necessarily make that right out of school, and that's about what an NP makes for starters!

exactly, "if/when" you get a job. what makes you so sure your starting pay will be this high?

I threw the first few checks at the bills...so now I have zero credit card debt, which is much more enjoyable than any toy I could get :)
