hi lovies!!
i was just wondering, what did you guys do with your first check?? and how did it feel when you received it?? was it like.."oh yes sooo worth it!!!":lol2: or was it more..."blaaahhhhh":crying2:...
i wanted to know because throughout nursing school i've been working as a medical receptionist and making $17/hr pays the bills but its pretty "blah"...if/when i get hired at my facility as a rn (when i get my licsence)...the starting range is between $32-$34....
when i get my 1st check as an rn i want a new wardrobe:monkeydance:...no more sweats and tees for me!!!! then of course save to buy a house since i'm sure taxes are going to rape me since i have no kids, i own nothing, and i'm 23 years old.....
so.....what did you guys do with your hefty or non hefty check???? :hpygrp:
I had a huge list of all the things I wanted to get, and I have yet to get something off of my list. I can say: I don't live at home anymore, I have everything I need and then some, and I am very happy with my income. If I had better saving skills I would probably have bought something off my list. Take that back. I have wonderful saving skills, but every time I save up a large amount I feel bad if I don't put it towards paying off my school loans. So, I guess I just need time.
I'm happy to be making steady money again, (this is my second career), and am looking forward to DH going back to school and making a similar change for himself. Having this income makes all the difference.
Best,
Southern
P.S. I also bought a new (used) car as a treat after going through school as a one car family. Two hours on the train...no more!

I just went on 2 interviews (hopefully offers will follow). The salaries I was quoted were:
for hospital job: 27.50/hr base for new grad + $1 after 6 months. 4.40 diff nights, 4.75 diff weekends. It's a 40 hr/week position, so theoretically if one worked nights, after adding holiday and weekend pay they would make about 70,000 (gross) first year.
for clinic job: 40 hrs week, salaried at a rate that works out to 29/hr to start, plus one 4 hour saturday per month which is paid hourly. It works out to about to about 61,500 gross a year.
Since we currently live off from husbands income just fine, and mine would be extra (minus daycare at $900/month), that is a big YAY, even after the big chunk removed for taxes.
This is in Connecticut, in case anyone is wondering.
