The Nerve!!!

Ok so we are all well aware of the EC battle with the GBON and the recent support of our govenor. Well get this a very good friend of mine is a ADN RN who works at the same hospital as I do in CCU she is also a BSN student at Thomas State University in Thomasville GA......one of their assignments it to write the govenor and state reps to tell them why EC should no longer be allowed in GA!!!! My friend called me today about this and said there is absolutely no way she would write a letter stating that EC should not be allowed in GA but that she is planning on writting a compelling letter in our support. I just can't believe that her professor is actually requiring this as a frickin assignment:argue: I am so irritated with the whole thing.

Thank you Ivan for your efforts to clear up this matter. From my reading of the response, I sensed a veiled effort to conceal that such an assignment did in fact take place. At any rate, it seems to be the concensus here that the assignment, if factual, was highly inappropriate. Again, thank you for your efforts.

I thought the same thing while reading it and honestly have a hard time feeling that my friend "invented" the assisgnment herself knowing how hot headed I get in regards to the EC issue. The whole response was rather shady in my opinion.

Well GaNurse, you and I live in GA, and that really about sums it up. I say this without bitterness (mostly), this state just really isn't pro nurse at all. It is bad enough to get it from the legislature/lawmakers/GBON, but we have to worry about educators. Clueless, just clueless. It is a shame, because there is some awesome nursing going on. Just no respect. My wife and I will be migrating west when I am done with school, and I will not be looking back.

I think about the pain and suffering GA EC students are going through right now, and for what? I read these posts, and I can feel the pain and emotional devestation. The people making these decisions don't have a clue regarding the impact of what they have done, and what is worse, I really don't think they care.

the students in that class should write and call the department head and the President of the university, this becomes an ethic issue because this is related to their passing grade and the instructor should not be placing that type of stress on the students.

you are right what nerve!

I agree with Ivan that the lawmakers are clueless. It reminds me of a situation here where they were trying to shut down a local center for the developmentally disabled. I wrote the local legislation here esp. because at that time I was working with developmentally disabled babies and most of the kids would eventually end up there when older but only if there was a place left for them. These children would have to move to a place 2 hours away and many nurses would be out of work. Anyways, her response was that she knew what it was like to be disabled because she was in a car accident once and had to be on crutches for 8 weeks with a broken foot. I am telling you these people are the ones who make the ultimate decisions in nursing and when it comes to ethics and nursing decisions they are completely clueless. I feel so much for you guys in Georgia who have put in all the hard work of getting through this program and to have ignorant people deciding on your fate is ridiculous.

this happened in florida in about 94-95 regents at the time had a lot of data regarding passing of boards and employer satisfaction. regents or EC is putting time and money into this like they did in fla I am sure. they did change some of the requirements at the time like to get a fla rn first (not by endorsement) from regents you had to be an LPN first. which I was so it didnt effect me. regents has ccne and NLN backing as well. it is a powerful organization. another thing you can get initial licensure in NY and work for a federa facility in GA with a NY license
