Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:
1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?
2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?
3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.
Not much left to add. Says it all.
Don't link to specific posts please! That's what gets our threads like this shut down. That's considered making fun of the specific poster instead of venting and having fun in general. :)
Wooh, I didn't know that... I'm really glad you mentioned this! I can see your point but I hadn't thought of it that way before.
Learn something new everyday, eh? (At least you do if you're not convinced that you already know everything there is to know and that no one can impart any information that is not already in your perfect, entitled brain )

Be careful, the all powerful mods have spoken.
Not a mod, nor a mod warning, just a "Please don't get the thread that I soooooo love closed by the people that are mods!!!" We've had a few of these amazing threads, and when people start linking, that's when they get shut down. And then we have to start a new thread. And that draws attention. Then we have to deal with 3 pages of people popping in just to tell us how mean and unprofessional we all are before we can get on to the pure fun part of the thread. I just want to stick with the good thing we've got going! :)
I love this website, and when I come Stateside we are all having coffee. I find the likes and comments from like-minded nurses validating and fun. So, can anyone tell me how I can become an American? It's my DREAM. Everything to do with this immigration stuff is so complicated, I love America and want to work there so can't they just give me a visa already? Is the NCLEX hard because so many people seem to have trouble with it and why should I have to sit your test in your country to safely look after your fellow citizens? They should just give me my registration because I have my paperwork which proves I completed the relevant study by correspondence in Tajikistan and I deserve it. I haven't been done for drink driving yet, and they don't drug test you for nursing jobs in Australia so no problems there so far. Oh, and how do I find out where to register, is there a website that can help me or can one of you guys write an incredibly long response and tell me step by step because honestly, I just don't have the patience once I've had a couple of red wines. If I can get Australian citizenship will that help me get a visa for the States?
All sarcasm aside (lowest form of wit I'm told but I am good at it) I meant every word of the first two sentences. For the record I actually read a post from a (non OZ) nurse (currently working in OZ) who actually asked if getting Australian citizenship would help her get a visa for the States. Somehow I think our government frowns upon this but that's just an opinion. I am a proud daughter of a US citizen (I was born & bred in OZ) and am going through the motions of registration and citizenship for the US, I don't feel entitled, just lucky and determined. If it was easy, everyone would do it. A lot like nursing. I think maybe I am becoming a biter nurse, or maybe I just need to improve my head banging. Is it bad that I don't know what WTH stands for? Or that atrocious spelling and the term "hater" makes me throw up a bit? The person that started this thread rocks.
Now that I've witnessed the ridiculous on another thread, I have a new fave to add: the wanna-be-nurse who is currently a wanna-be-aide but doesn't think that the TITLES are appropriate, and is very angry at POTENTIALLY being called something degrading (that no one on earth has ever felt is degrading). He's very protective of busting his butt on a grueling course of study (that is, becoming a nurse's aide) but he's only three weeks into the 8-week program. Maybe. Ah, who knows, story keeps changing. But not to worry, this is a teenager with lots of time to teach all of us what is professional and what isn't--just ask him.
Yeesh.
Seriously, what a true mockery nursing has become when veterinary techs feel qualified to post and weigh in on the issues, concerns and difficulties facing the professional nurse today.
I don't care if animals are your patients and if you are considered a nurse in some countries. You are not a nurse.
But, the fault is ours, not theirs. We allowed the profession to become more and more diluted.
