The Mockery of Nursing

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

I also hate that. It's used in grade school now as well. I think it is a politically correct substitution of the condescending "put on your thinking caps"

OH, those stupid RNs today were so mean. They make so much more money than me that they should be happy to work here every day. I'm just going to work on my online pre-requisites for nursing school on the clock so that I can make that much money too, because I don't have a computer at home like the rich RN's do. All I need is the credential- I am just as smart as they are!

BTW what are critical thinking skills? Do they get me more money? Then I definitely have those.

You know what else makes me absolutely crazy? People who misuse to, two, and too. Or through and threw. The list goes on and on. I understand the occasional typo - I'm guilty of that myself - but I remember these sound alike words being drilled into my head in elementary school. Does it really require that much thought to use the right word?

the one that's like nails on a chalkboard to me is "i balled my eyes out." no, that would be "bawled." to me, "balled" is a crude term for sexual intercourse and if your intercourse was vigorous that your eyes came out, i don't want to know about it.

Now, that brings up another thought. What exactly, are "critical thinking skills"? And, why has the nursing profession latched onto that phrase as it's domain?

Oh good lord. That freaking phrase. It was the crutch of nursing school. Dont like my answer, you didnt critically think. No the problem is the questions are so ambiguous that you have to read into some so much and others the sheer notion of suggesting anything other than what is written in black and white will make you miss the question. I had a huge issue with nursing school. it made little sense to me the way things are run. And dont even get me started on the NCLEX.

Oh yeah. Old nurses suck/are mean/have warts on their long pointed noses/make you eat poisoned apples blah blah blah :D

I hated that crap, too. Um, yes, I did "critically think," I just didn't arrive at the same conclusion as you did. That's critically thinking, too!

That phrase has always bothered me, mainly because it's used where it shouldn't be used. I had to take another "critical thinking" test at my workplace, and I wanted to point out to TPTB that the questions involved regurgitation of facts. If you're gonna use the phrase, at least use it correctly and only when it applies. But, that would take critical thinking, wouldn't it?

and don't you know they'd show up in my er, afterwards?

ruby, you wanna come over and help me clean my computer? 'cause i just snorted up my cup of tea laughing over this one and coughed it all over everything. almost had to heimlich myself with my keyboard...

Yeah Ruby. What's up with the frank posts. You never are "to the point" in your posts :D.

And I thought Tango and I were maxing out the "gross-out" factor of this thread :D but apparently not.

You just know some readers are not to sure what's going on with the posters on this thread, and not sure they want to go into nursing anymore... what the heck kind of people are we anyway, we certainly are not the nurses they will ever work with...
