The Mockery of Nursing

Nurses Relations

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

it wasn't funny then and it isn't funny now, this thread is mean, unprofessional and very immature. what's most disapointing is that there are members commenting on this thread whose opinions i usually respect.

i am not at work.

i am at home and i am having fun.

i feel absolutely no pressure to be "professional" at home.

when i punch out at 1530 (or more like 1730 on a crappy day) i leave that job at the door.

for 8 hours, i have sucked it up, put on my game face and was "professional" in spite of the absolute garbage i have to put up with.

i am anonymous, free and and having a mighty fine time!

i've been an aide, i've been a student and now i am a new nurse... and i still think this thread is funny.

so what, we did this before. you telling me you only ever tell a funny joke or story once?

we think it's funny enough for another go.

and mature people don't whine on a cock-a-doody internet forum that people are "mean"!

Dark humor. Similar to patients that are "circling the drain" taking a "dead cat bounce." If you're offended, there's bajillions of threads where you can go. But if you can't handle some nurses on the internet letting off steam, I'd love to witness you calling an ortho surgeon at 3am.

You're not going to get a consensus from everyone that's posted on this thread saying, "Oh my goodness. Bless your heart. We ARE sooooo mean." Instead you're just going to prove that there's plenty of newbies that DO NOT GET IT. Every shift, we spend 8-14+ hours dealing with family members that just don't get it. Dealing with management that keeps telling us to do more with less. And yes, dealing with new coworkers who are still blowing sunshine and rainbows out their behinds and don't get how exhausting it can be to not only keep your patients alive but make sure your shiny happy new coworkers don't kill anyone either. And even the cranky old people here often have to work with people even crankier and older than they are! And then we come home....

Allnurses is our little place where we can escape. Our families don't get what we do all day. You can only vent so much at work depending on who your coworkers are. So here's our safe little haven. Where we can vent to people that "get it." But not everyone here does get it!

Not just newbies. You want to see a fight that leaves "old vs young" to shame? Go see any combination of ER vs MS vs ICU vs LTC threads. ED nurses don't get what LTC nurses do and vice versa. ICU nurses don't get what MS nurses do and vice versa. And what happens to a thread where ED nurses decide to get out some of their stress? Someone comes in and tells them how mean they are!!! How dare they judge the person allergic to every drug except that one that starts with D! What happens when MS nurses whine in a thread all their own? How dare they not be able to take super perfect care of 12 patients at a time! Would they want their grandma told that they have to wait 2 minutes for someone to move their tray table?

RESPECT in those situations is, "If you don't get it, go find another thread."

I don't get the stress of waiting on the Pearson Vue trick. (Since I NCLEXed back in the day that there wasn't a trick and I had to actually wait for the official result.) So I stay out of those threads.

If you don't find the thread funny, there's a solution. A ridiculous number of other threads on allnurses to choose from. The ability to start another thread of your own demonstrating your positive ideals. And the rest of the internet.

Let those of us that have actual steam to burn off, to BURN IT OFF. So we can be refreshed and be happy shiny smiley when we go to other threads to answer questions and contribute. Let us burn it off here, and there will be less negativity to take to other threads. Repeatedly bashing people for letting off steam? It just proves that you do not get it. Come back when you've spent enough time in the trenches to have gathered up some pet peeves. Spent enough time here to see the same threads OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

Wish I could "like" this more than once.... or that there was a "LOVE IT!" button :yeah:

Good point. We don't like anybody here! Let me tell you, in real life, I like a good joke. I absolutely LOVE a good joke at my expense. I think the best ever joke at work was one day when my phone would NOT STOP RINGING. I'm in the break room with a few people, and I've just answered the phone with my cheery, "This is wooh, how may I help you?" and end the conversation, hang up and yell (in my indoor yell voice) how I'm going to throw this phone if it rings one more time. And my phone rings, and I answer it after a "ERGH!!!" and standing in front of me is my coworker grinning at me. Because she's the one that called. And since it's one of the NICEST PEOPLE in the world, it was even funnier, because you'd never expect her to be so devious...

And oh my goodness, my coworkers can be "mean" to me. Some do fantastic impressions of my report, which is far from SBAR. I give a horrible report. It starts out about how wonderful the patient/family is, how cute the kid is, a little run down, some vaguely important things, is always a story. I have seen the best impressions done of me, and they are AWESOME. One coworker likes to do impressions of me in various situations. They're awesome. "Mean" as well, but hey, can't feel too bad as much as I laugh.

I love people here like I love my coworkers. And my family. Some of them annoy the Hades out of me, but I still like them. I even disagree with some of them. I'm fine with NCLEX being only 75-265 questions. And I hate blue comic sans font. That puts me on the opposite side of at least three of my favorite posters here. Doesn't mean we can't all be friends.

I really really hate comic sans. My workplace actually has a font policy that says, "Comic sans is never acceptable." It's my favorite part of our P&P! (Sorry Ruby Bee!)

Dead cat bounce? Never heard that one before and I'm a hospice nurse! Love it!

Oops, I guess I should say "Geez, wooh, you're so mean!"

What the heck is "comic sans"? A comedian without...what? A good joke? At first I thought it said "cosmic sans." Imagine how confused I was then. Please enlighten me...I want to know what I'm missing so I can complain appropriately.

ooh! just saw georgia is a choice on the fonts now. that is a font that i can get behind!!! we're like wrestlers. at one point, ruby bee and woof are tag team partners. then we're fighting each other over the font belt! (with grntea obviously in ruby vee's corner. why doesn't she post her comic sans in ruby red? i'm going with purple because for woof colors, i'd probably have to use brown like a dog turd.)

comic sans is going down!!!!!!

Hi, I graduated with a 6.0 GPA from my accelerated BSN program while juggling 4 kids, a husband and a monkey, was inducted into Sigma Beta Alpha Beta Alpha Metta World Peace, passed my NCLEX with 75 questions in 6 minutes while battling a crippling case of the flu and food poisoning with only 2 days of studying and....

*insert unrelated question here*

OMG, I actually snorted my Pepsi on this one!! ROFL...

But then again, I know you're probably not really hating on genius nurses, right? ;)

i cannot believe a professional nurse is talking about canine stool!

how immature!
