The Mockery of Nursing

Nurses Relations

Published

Just a bit ago the top three threads involved:

1.I have a DWI. Can I be a nurse?

2.I am stupid. Can I be a nurse?

3.If it takes me five times to pass NCLEX, Can I be nurse.

Not much left to add. Says it all.

Oh, and this one (actual classmate).

"I won't have to study for L&D, or Peds - gonna be easy. I've had 4 children and know all there is to know about having babies and taking care of sick kids as a mom." I'll take L&D or Peds as "fall-backs" if I can't get ICU when I graduate."

Hi, I graduated with a 6.0 GPA from my accelerated BSN program while juggling 4 kids, a husband and a monkey, was inducted into Sigma Beta Alpha Beta Alpha Metta World Peace, passed my NCLEX with 75 questions in 6 minutes while battling a crippling case of the flu and food poisoning with only 2 days of studying and....

*insert unrelated question here*

This one really DID make me L-O-L!!! Charming!

The monkey has to have ADHD issues...

Here is a quarter- now go forth and purchase thyself a sense of humor please.

Thanks, but I'd prefer a cookie.

This thread is NOT bashing pre-nursing students, nursing students, or people who just got their first nursing job. It is to address the often ignorant, silly, and most of all--- REPETATIVE things that get posted here.

Oh my, you don't say? I thought the repetitive things that are "often ignorant and silly" were only posted by those pre-nursing students, nursing students and new nurses, or any member for that matter that isn't an inducted member of the Old Bat Society Club of AllNurses.com. Such "ignorant, silly" and repetitive comments couldn't possibly come from you seasoned nurses, or could they?

There were several entries in this thread talking about "Seasoned" nurses. And the biggest chuckle most of us were having? We were waiting for "THE ONE!" You know, the ONE who has no clue about who we are, what we do, or what we are responsible for, jumping up and down while yelling about all of us big MEANIES! Carrying on in a huff about how we aren't acting responsible or compassionate. Posting about how you will NEVER be like we are , a bunch of nasty, unprofessional meanie nurses.

Sour grapes, much? How else are you expected to be perceived if you continue to rant and rave about how peeved you and others are over the comments/opinions/actions of those outside your esteemed old bat society?

Please go back to page 1, and re-read all of the posts while keeping all that I've said in mind.

There is no need. The context would not have changed even if I did. Carry on as you wish. ;)

Awww s****! Foiled by the new AN design. I'd give her a cookie if we had the old emoticons!

No, actually, they have been from a variety of people, with lots of different levels of experience- What they DO have in common is that they read a lot of the AN posts, and are a titch exasperated about how the SAME things come up over and over and over.

How DO I expect to be percieved? Who are you to presume to know ANYTHING about me? And do me a favor? If you do ever get accepted into a nursing program, finish it, pass the NCLEX, manage to get a job- then PLEASE stand in the middle of the nurses station and complain about the OLD BAT SOCIETY.Until then, please understand that posts like what you are INSISTING on adding is what all of us are poking fun at. If you don't like it- DON'T READ IT! But we have the right to stress relief, thanks.

(And to get back into the spirit of the original intent of this thread) AND I TAKE OFFENSE at your comments!

There is no need. The context would not have changed even if I did. Carry on as you wish. ;)

And WHAT about this thread is it that you fail to grasp? There is nothing on here bashing young nurses-

...or pre-nursing students, or new nurses, for that matter. Let's all turn a blind eye to what's really happening in this thread, shall we? But unfortunately some member are far too young/inexperienced to go blind while reading this thread...unlike you "seasoned" folks...

...hey, if you don't mind me asking is blindness a requirement to be inducted in your society? Just wondering, for future reference of course.

There seems to be an awful lot of new posters asking questions that we have been discussing. And guess what? They've joined in the last 72 hours.

Is it just me or does the title of this thread read "Mockery of NURSING"? It seems as though some may have misread this. I think I may have to head on over to the nursing student/pre-nursing student section and start a thread called "Mockery of Pre-Nursing students". Surely pre-nursing students wound not be offended by that even though I am not a pre-nursing student, which, in theory, would disqualify me from adding to the conversation in that particular area...

According to the comments in this thread only a select group of people have mocked or are mocking the nursing profession and by extension, the "seasoned" bunch of nurses. This ignorant, imbecilic and rhetorical bunch fall in either/or of the following groups:

- Pre-nursing students

- Nursing Students

- Young Nurses

- New Nurses (more specifically those who are career-changers, mothers, and BSN holders)

Should you decide to create a thread entitled "Mockery of Pre-Nursing Students" you would have to have the following ingredients for it to follow in the similar path as this thread:

(a) pre-nursing students with an ax to grind;

(b) pre-nursing students who have something to say against targeted groups who in their opinion have targeted them (ie "seasonal" nurses); and

© A "seasoned" nurse or two (for example) who would have the liberty to interject and defend the perception these pre-nursing students have of them.

The only problem is, of course, the thread would have to be started by a pre-nursing student, which you yourself amply noted you are not. I wonder if we have any volunteers?

well, as a pre-nursing student, i have nothing to add just yet. except my own hysterical laughter :lol2:

i will say though, in just the last 4 or 5 months of reading, i've thought many of the same things. a lot of the threads are very repetitive (wow, that just doesn't look right no matter how i spell it). anyhow, for all those without a sense of humour today, think back over the last few years. no matter where you work or what boards you've followed there have been ongoing pet peeves. and if you say there aren't, you were the pet peeve :D

at my office, just today i heard the following:

i have a family at home, why do i have to work so many late shifts? ummm, maybe because you're working in a 24hr call center?

from a client: i am on vacation in florida and need to see a dr. okay, what symptoms are you having? i have a cough, it's really bad. how long have you had the cough. since this morning (it's only noon). seriously? if you were at home you wouldn't have even hit up the pharmacy for the robitussin yet!! (can't tell you how much i really want to say those words sometimes)

brand new rn on the case management team to appointed "crusty old bat (cob)". but why can't we deny the claim, the htn is clearly the cause of her stroke!? yes, but as an insurance, we don't/can't link the two. but you see, i was the charge rn in a cvicu in a premier hospital in the city so i can say with absolute certainty that the two are linked. that's nice says the cob, but according to our lawyers and our medical director, we can't relate the two, so pay the claim. but i was a charge nurse! in cvicu! surely, i'm more right than someone who sits at a desk all day (wish i could say this was more paraphrased than it is). suffice it to say, cob was right and claim was payed. funny how someone with 15years experience in the industry might know more than the newbie.

the gist of this? no matter where you are, there is the old guard and the new guard. each team has it's pet peeves about the other regardless of how well they get along. and yes, we sometimes mock each other pretty well to our faces. haven't you ever done a "stupid" thing and had it follow you? i still get teased about certain files where i made new mistakes. none of this was meant to disparage anyone in particular. take it as the joke it is and we'll all have a drink to smooth things over.:yelclap:
