The LPN's role on the NCLEX??

Updated:   Published

can someone please explain what the lpn can and cannot do on the NCLEX. I have geen getting many practice questions wrong because I am confused as to their scope of practice in NCLEX world.

this info would make my day!! thanks in advance!

Let me bump this up because I am in the same boat. I'm just hoping that the questions regarding their practice will be obvious because their practice acts vary from state to state. I just keep thinking they care for "stable patients with predictable outcomes" (at least in NCLEX world).

Specializes in Operating room, SDC.

hmmmm... LPN's can administer oral, meds IM injections and subcuts, change dressings, irrigate wounds, monitor IV flowrates, suctioning, basic hygiene, urinary catherizaton...thats all i can come up with..there might be more, hope this helps.

Specializes in ICU/ER.

All of the above---and from what I learned in school LPNs can not do initial assessments or dismissals. They can only assess stable patients with a predictable outcome.

FYI I did not have a single Nclex questions with an LPN in any scenario.

Specializes in Still a medic at heart but ICU, M/S, SVU.

They can NOT do assessments, discharges or admits. This is in the NCLEX world. I've known real world LPN's to do them but not in the "NCLEX Hospital". Eliminate those basics on the test and you'll usually find your answer. They can administer meds, dressing changes and basic procedures. Hope this helps!!!

More than a CNA, but less than an RN. I would analyze all the given information and decide based upon the complexity of actions provided for choices.
