IF anyone has relocated with children between the ages of 11 and 13 or perhaps older what was there reaction when you announced it to them. Please let us know and how did things progress.

While not the same exact situation, my husband was career military and we moved very often involving four countries. Several times later in the game, the kids were balking at it as they were teens. We did try to play up the positive. We also provided them with as much info as possible. Once you have an area pinned down, you might want to start corresponding with the school system to try to make the transition as easy as possible. Other avenues include the local Chamber of Commerce (even small towns usually have one), churches that you think you might go to, realtors, etc.

Good luck.

My son who is 13 was quite looking forward to moving to the US when he thought it was going to happen very quickly. The longer the process has taken, the less enthusiast he has become. Every now and then, he comes up with an excuse for not wanting to go. A few days ago, I was talking to him about possibly needing vaccinations as he missed out on the 2nd MMR jab because we moved home andhe said point blank "That's it! I am definitely not going".:argue:

:idea:I'll leave him with his grandmother if he doesn't want to go!!

I think the younger they are then the better. My son was 14 when we first decided to look into emigrating to the US. He was keen then, but now 3+ years down the line he has different feelings about going. We are off to Connecticut in 5 weeks and one week he's OK about going, then the next he doesn't want to go. I expect that to be quite normal for his age, as he's leaving his friends behind and as he isn't school age now it may be more difficult to make friends at first. At the moment he's OK about going!!

My 13 year old can't wait but I think he'll find it tough for a while. My 2 younger ones will find things easier.

Luckily my son has met some kids out where we're planning to go because he swims with the local team when we go on vactation there.

We also have friends in the whose daughter will be in the same class at school so that should help a bit.
