The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.
If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.
HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.
All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.
The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.
To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:
You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.
Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.
If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

My credit was pulled today!
Experian
8/3/10
CBC/Bureau of Primary Health Care. The comment on it is Government direct unsecured loan. This inquiry is scheduled to continue on record until Sep 2012.
Strange thing: Equifax had an inquiry also on8/3/10 but by a company called CBR MORTGAGE SERVICES out of Houston TX. I know for a fact i've not applied for any mortgages?!
I was under the impression that the credit check was only to see if you had defaulted on any federal obligations. I will be in a world of hurt if I don't get this because I have charged off credit cards.
Well there goes my chance....I wished they would have pulled credit before having us fax all those documents over. My credit is crap....it couldn't be worse than it is right nowSo bummed right now. I will be shocked if I get it at this point.

I think all the speculation about the credit issues has gotten a little overblown on here. An EFC of 0 means that you made little to no money, or somehow showed that you made little to no money via deductions on your taxes.
In the first case, which I am sure that 99% of the people with EFC = 0 fall into, most of these people probably had difficulty with paying bills at one point or another over the past 7 years, seeing that their income was very low in 2009.
If they rejected everyone with credit issues and still wanted an EFC = 0, they would have a hard time awarding scholarships.
I have KH myself, and havent had any correspondence since the accidental email or credit checks.
Everyone sounds like they are in the same boat as me. I wish you all the best, but try not to worry so much everyone. Your kids will know you are worried I promise. Those little people can feel everything. All this worry wont make any of us get the scholarship, like someone said before it's out of our hands. I say enjoy what you do have, you are in the nursing program and headed toward a bright future in a field you love (hopefully) Enjoy your families, especially the little ones! I'm sure most of you already do, and you use this medium to vent your frustrations, but just in case I wanted to throw that out there. I forget sometimes how much I really do have, I get lost in all the things I feel I need. ( like financial security while in school)
Good luck to all of you!!!:redbeathe
I hear you. I am a father, this is my 2nd bachelors and I do not qualify for grants. On top of that I have been unemployed for over a year and decided to pursue nursing. Believe me, I understand where you are coming from. Having said that, you are the only person who knows what to do. Think as if you were not getting the scholarship and start from there. Start thinking about plan B C D F....LOL! you know, I was able to get a 50k private loan with no cosigner. If you have good credit you don't even have to worry about being approved. Check Wells Fargo's MEDCAP LOAN. it is one of the best loans out there for nursing students. Good luck! And don't let anything get in the way ON YOUR LAST YEAR OF NURSING! :)
JoeNurse2b,
I took your advice and checked out the Wells Fargo MEDCAP LOAN but they said I did not qualify bc I was in a BSN program. They said the loan was for graduate programs???? So I went to good ole Sallie Mae for a private loan and yada yada my loan is now going through some process called "underwriting". Do you know what that is and how long it will take? Does anybody? My tuition is due the 12th (yeah I know I waited too late but finding funds has not been easy and I was HOPING I would have received an answer from HRSA HA!!!).

You probably looked at the wrong medcap loan. There is one for healthcare professionals. I am in Accel. BSN and got the loan.

MRevis,
I actually had to call Wells Fargo and talk to a representative about their student loans options. They will ask you a few questions and give you a couple of options...it would be a good idea to call them.

MC...I also received all the emails. I faxed over the required documents, and the banking info but I guess it was never received because my analyst sent me an email asking me the date when I faxed them over and later sent me another email telling me to re-fax the materials again. This was all done on the 3rd and today my credit was checked. I think they are really getting all the final pieces together! Hopefully start making awards by next week! I'm still praying!!!
