The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.
If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.
HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.
All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.
The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.
To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:
You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.
Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.
If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Ya, I know that I have a cc that has been written off. I was under the impression that it was only federal stuff, student loans, and the like that counted against us. I thought I had read through everything there possibly was to read... oops.
Well I was looking at experian and mine has 3 that have been closed but when you read the info it says it has been moved to a creditor or attorney...so I don't know. I thought it was only federal stuff too...like loans. Oh well guess we will wait and see. But I don't know if they have checked my credit. The last thing that has been checked according to this was in 2008
If good credit history was a requirement, they would make sure it was posted in their application guidelines - it would probably help weed through us applicants. Plus, there are people from last year's thread that mentioned they had credit issues and were awarded the scholarship. Don't get worried, especially since you did get the email...
Well, I just called them... not that you get really great info, but bankruptcy does not count against you. A write off "might" but they are really looking for a "write off" that was closed with a federal judgment against you. Of course, this guy also told me that there was never a July or August date given... that it has always been September. Whatever... lol

It cracks me up that all the information given is SO different....I found this on their web site.
Individuals selected for awards will be notified by letter no later than July 31, 2010. Individuals not selected for an NSP award will be notified via e-mail by no later than September 30, 2010.

Oh ya! I know, it's completely ridiculous. My response was "Okay, so the email we got that said August 23rd... was just wrong I guess??" To which he said "If you got that email, it wasn't from us, that's not what our website says."
Wooowwww..... It's almost fun to call them, I should call and ask them something really simple and ridiculous... like "What's your name?" They would be at a complete loss unless they could look it up on the website! LOL I don't mean that, I'm not trying to be ugly. Just a little comic relief. :)
I think I'm at the "let go" point again. I can't control it... so I'll just battle my neurosis, at least I have an ever-so-slight chance at having an impact on that!
Off to study for my final Patho test. Then I get a whole whopping two week break before nursing school! lol Maybe I can actually get my house clean!
Does anyone have Kimberley Hawkins as an analyst? I received the July 19th email, but nothing after that. Was wondering if anyone else did...
I have her as my analyst. I received the July 19th email, then one from her saying she is very busy and couldn't verify if everyone's documents had been received from the fax, then the one from AW about not calling and the change in dates, then the one that was supposed to go to my school and then the email that recalled that one (if any of that made sense). That is all I have received so far. But honestly I wouldn't worry about it. The other emails I received after the 19th were just information to get us to stop calling and emailing :)
Bankruptcy "discharge" is different than a creditor who reports a debt as uncollectible...uncollectible is the creditor has repeatedly tried to get the debtor to pay and after 12-24 months they will write the debt off. Did you have a mortgage loan foreclosure?? They could have an issue with that...because those loans are usually backed by Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae (government entities).I think more importantly is how has your credit been since the BK? If you have paid your other bills on time and started to re-establish yourself I think you will be pleasantly suprised with your credit report...(I worked as a mortgage lender for many years before nursing school, so this information is from my experience)
Thanks so much for that inside info. No mortgage loan foreclosure included and I have been doing my best to re-establish my credit.

Pull your credit before you get worried. Remember, they are reviewing our credit for non-payment of Federal debt obligations...half of ALL people have credit issues like uncollectable medical bills, etc. HRSA is very aware of that fact.
Also, personal inquiries on your credit report will NOT hurt your credit.
