The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.
If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.
HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.
All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.
The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.
To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:
You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.
Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.
If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I was able to update my email address so I guess this means they still have not made a decision??? Private loan for me then bc tuition is due next week. I don't understand why they cannot make decisions before the semester begins. I know my irritation and complaining will not change anything but this could just about drive a person crazy
Hey, you can return your loans as stated here before once you get the scholarship and if you get it. With all due respect that is not a big deal. I already paid my school with private loans so if I get the scholarship that would be a blessing and if not then it is still a blessing to be in a nursing program nowadays. THERE IS ALWAYS A SOLUTION :)
Okay so is it up to the school what they do with the Pell grant? I read last year's post and it said that HRSA would pay anything after the Pell grant...but then on here someone said that their school billed HRSA all of the tuition and the school cut them a check for the pell?? Any ideas??

I understand what you are saying but with all due respect IT IS a big deal to me. I cannot get a private loan without a credit worthy cosigner and since I cannot go ask Jane off the street to cosign it, it presents a rather difficult situation for me. This is my last year and I do feel blessed with being in the nursing program but I have struggled all summer with trying to find a way to pay for school. This is my second BS so I don't qualify for grants. I am a widowed mother of two so I maxed out the total amount of federal loans I can receive between my first degree and last 3 semesters of nursing school. I am all for ideas if you know a solution to that?????? All I was saying is that it would be nice to get a final answer whether it be a yes or no.

Has anyone called to find out if they have started sending out letters? I am just curious. This is about the time they started sending them out from when the first person got their email last year.

I hear you. I am a father, this is my 2nd bachelors and I do not qualify for grants. On top of that I have been unemployed for over a year and decided to pursue nursing. Believe me, I understand where you are coming from. Having said that, you are the only person who knows what to do. Think as if you were not getting the scholarship and start from there. Start thinking about plan B C D F....LOL! you know, I was able to get a 50k private loan with no cosigner. If you have good credit you don't even have to worry about being approved. Check Wells Fargo's MEDCAP LOAN. it is one of the best loans out there for nursing students. Good luck! And don't let anything get in the way ON YOUR LAST YEAR OF NURSING! :)
I would check with your local hospital and see if they will cover your tuition in return for service. A lot of them will, and will usually give you a part time job while you're in school. Great way to guarentee yourself a job when you graduate as well.
As far as pell, my school pays tution with pell and loans, and when the hrsa tuition reimbursement comes in - they cut me a check for that. My understanding, however, is that it's up to the school whether they choose to do that -- or reimburse pell with it.
instead of going crazy, i figured it out. if hrsa mailed the notifications on saturday they probably werent picked up/processed by the post office until yesterday (monday) because they were closed sunday. so hopefully we should start receiving the letters by tomorrow/thursday the earliest depending on where you live. hopefully this will help with the anxiety! i know it helps me with mine!
