The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

can you supply the link? i went to the webpage and couldn't find it.

Here's the link. (Sorry that would have been helpful)

619? That's such a random number! Sounds almost like they've made their selections to know how many can fit in the budget...

Well 619 is better then 500. Hopefully award letters will be in EVERYONE'S mailbox soon!!!

I did a little more digging and found some very interesting numbers just for fun lol! Here is a link to the proposed hrsa budget for 2011. On it it has the 1009 and 2010 amounts for the loan repayment and scholarship program. it says for 2010, HRSA has 93,000,000 available for nursing loan repayment and the scholarship program. Hrsa also did not request any additional fees for 2011, just the same amount. Last year they had only 37,000,000 for the repayment and scholarship, but when the president passed the recovery act they were able to provide an additional 27,000,000 to the program. http://www.hrsa.gov/about/pdf/executivesummary2011.pdf, just thought it was some food for thought!

Not sure if this will help anyone but I did get all the emails however my 1st email with the contract, W4 form and request for banking info was sent back to them as undeliverable...I was having email issues that Monday. When I recieved the 2nd email I was wondering why I never recieved the 1st so I called and they resent my 1st email that Thursday and I fax the documents immeadiately. I am first funding pref, my credit is terrible, I mean TERRIBLE...It couldn't be worse than it is right now. I'm not sure if they pulled my credit as I never checked. I am on medi-cal for health insurance so maybe they look at that stuff.....wanting to get people off that tpe of assistance...not to sure. If anyone recieved the 2nd email asking us to "stop calling" the one from Aurthur Williams, then you should have gotten the 1st email. That is who I called and he had the 1st email resent to me.

As far as the Pell Grant Money, it is my understanding we will still get that in addition to the scholarship $. This is from my financial aid dept at the school I'm going to. She said there are students from last year that got this scholarship and they are still getting grant money.

Hope this info helps! Good luck to everyone :)

How long did it take from the time they told you that you were supposed to receive an email that you actually got it? If you don't mind me asking? :nurse:

To my knowledge from past years (and what the NSP info website still says), the link to modify our contact information will become unavailable once decisions have been made. It's still live, so I wouldn't start stalking your local friendly postal carrier quite yet. :)
