The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

Mine will be paid I took them out, but according to my school I have to cancel them before they get sent to school otherwise they are mine. Which stinks because I can send them back but then I will be stuck with the fees they take out...but yes it would be better then not getting school paid at all.

That's strange - my school told me they'd just send them back to the lenders. It doesn't cancel the loan, but it essentially repays it before any real interest can accrue, so I'm only out the origination fees.

Man, I'll be so happy if we find out this month, but I'm definitely not holding my breath.

Well last years post the time between the first email being sent out to the first letter being received was about 3 weeks. So we are going on the 3rd week. So maybe they did start sending them out on Friday. Maybe I miss understood the financial aid rep at my school. I also asked him about the Pell and how it worked and he was suppose to be forwarding my email the our billing lady, but I haven't heard anything. Either way if the take the Pell out and still bill HRSA the full amount or bill HRSA the full amount and refund me my Pell I will be happy. I just don't want them to take the Pell out and bill HRSA the remaining balance that would stink since we don't get any $ from HRSA until Oct. If I knew I'd get someone who was smart I'd call the call center...but I don't know what good it would do. I am sure if we emailed JV he'd probably tell us the 23rd since that is what that one email said.

I would be excited but frustrated if people started receiving letters today! LOL Our mailbox is on the corner of the block, one of those you have to have a key to get into. Well, it's broken! I've been trying to get them to fix it for a week!! How in the world can the P.O. do this to me when I'm expecting such important things in the mail?? Ridiculous! (It's not just stuff from HRSA, but from my nursing school, etc. as well) I can't decide if I'm anxious to hear if anyone gets anything, or if I should just stop reading this thread until they fix my mail box! LOL

If it makes you feel any better we live w/ my parents and they have that kind of mailbox too so everyday I will have to wait for my mom to get home w/ the mail.......She probably wont let me have the key since the last time I dropped it and we could never find it.....Opps....

Maybe it's just me, but I was thinking that Aug 23rd date was just something to get us to leave them alone, lol. They sent out the first email which says we are finalists or alternates and the decisions would be made by July 30. Then they get bombarded with phone calls and all of a sudden we get an email to stop calling and we'll be notified by Aug 23 because of the "high number of applications received."

Didn't they know how many applications they had received when the sent out the first email? :sstrs:

They weren't getting any more applications at that time, so that statement, or excuse, just doesn't make much sense. I understand fully they may have had more applications this year, but things didn't change for them from the time they sent out the first email to the time they sent out the second one. Maybe I'm just over-thinking it, but I just really don't see how in the matter of 3 days they all of sudden realized they needed an extra month to make decisions.

At any rate, even if it is Aug 23, that means its a little less than 3 weeks until we will hear something. :yelclap:

Hehehe. I wonder how many of you have worked in a government or big corporate/bureaucratic environment? NOT saying that to be snarky or mean - just saying - looking for common sense, logical thinking, or anything resembling efficiency is not often a productive effort in those situations. :D

I'm guessing it went like this... the new HRSA director, who wants to look good to his/her bosses, says - "THIS year, we notify by JULY 31!! Tell all the applicants! We're gonna look GREAT compared to the old guys!!" - while all the little worker bees up to their necks in our thousands of applications laugh hysterically, knowing full well it'll never happen...

(then July 31st comes around... and go figure, now the date's August 23rd. ;))

They PO maintenance guy JUST called! They are replacing the lock and bringing us a new key right now, lol. Maybe I should complain about more to you guys, lol, could be productive!

Yeah maybe you could make all of our letters GET HERE!!! :-)

That means more people got the email!!!!!!:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

Nope I didn't get it from mine at least not yet. Why do they need to know the day we faxed? I am pretty sure everyone who received the email on the 19th either faxed it in on the 19th or 20th.

O...M....G..... Really? Apparently we are nowhere near getting letters. Something, somewhere got screwed up.

Who is your analyst?
