The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.
If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.
HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.
All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.
The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.
To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:
You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.
Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.
If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.
If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I was kind of confused at my school's orientation. The orientation was for both the traditional BSN and the accelerated group (those who already have a bachelors). After it was over, they had the traditional folks leave...with just the accelerated students left. Later on in the second half of the meeting, they mentioned something about financial aid and somehow (don't know what was asked or whatever), the kids who were getting financial aid raised their hands. I am super confused because I thought you couldn't qualify for financial aid if it was your second degree???? This is probably covered elsewhere on allnurses....but this is the only thread I visit!
I guess I have been lucky...I have been so busy moving in to my new apartment and getting the essentials, I haven't had much time to worry about the scholarship!
NACCRA has programs for help with daycare....
Do they have anything to help with non-military families? I see the programs for military- my daughter's dad is in the Marines....but he's never met her and didn't "want" her. So he's not on the bc and has no established relationship. Oh well. She is better off without him!!
In order to qualify for state assistance, I would have to get a part-time job. They won't cover child care if it's just for school. I want to focus on school completely...no job for me.

Wow. That's the most horrible thing ever. He didn't "want" her. How sad.

I'm not sure how much longer you have in your program, and I'm sure the rules vary from state to state...here in Kansas you can count your school hours as "work" hours as long as you graduate within a year. When you are within a year of graduating, you might check into assistance again. I am able to get food stamps if I work or not because I have a two year old, but can't get any other assistance until January when I will have a year left. Best of luck to you!

You are considered Undergraduate (even in an Accelerated BSN program) until you are in Graduate school. Therefore, you are eligible for 57,500 in Sub/Unsub Stafford Loans...students with a Bachelors aren't eligible for grants but you can have a prior degree and still receive Stafford Loans (because probably those students didn't use all of their loan eligibility when they were in school). I have a prior degree (graduated in 2000) and didn't use all of my Stafford Loans (because of scholarships, etc). So, I still have 28,000 that is available to me for Nursing School.

I just looked back at the email that AW sent about not sending emails and it says awards will be sent via US MAIL. People not selected for awards would be notified via EMAIL.
People who have emailed their analyst after this email were told that we will be notified by email.
The email also said...no later than August 23rd, so since none of us have heard anything email will be best.
The website says all applicants who will receive the scholarship will be notified no later than September 30, 2010. I also received the email stating, selected applicants will know no later than August 23, 2010. Keep it all in prayer, what will be will be!!! Easier said than done! Looking forward to Monday August 23, 2010 and see what happens! :-)

There is a credit hour limit on federal funding. I know my school has one at like 160 credit hours or something like that. So if you had an unrelated bachelors and then did prereqs by the time I got to nursing school I was no longer eligible. You might check with your financial aid department.
I kinda have a good feeling about tomorrow for being the day we find out! I mean they could have just as easily recalled the email stating we would know on the 23rd, as they did the other recalled email. Plus I don't think they would want to put themselves in the place where people from thier organization sent out emails(that main one for AW and the other people who got them personally from thier anaylst) saying we would know this day and then we didnt...I mean if they think the phone has been ringing off the hook from us through this whole process, imagine the phone calls they will get if we hear nothing tomorrow! LOL! Good Luck everyone!!
Also anyone who had MC, when did you get your original email? Early in the AM or later in the day?

I think you just apply for this one once you are accepted into a FNP program, so after you serve your 2 years for this scholarship, can't you apply for this?
