The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

What did your analyst say about graduate degree options??

Just wondering...what was the additional document that you had to sign? I really hope it comes by email, I don't want to wait on snail mail..lol

The woman said something like: "In order for us to extend your scholarship into the following year, we need you to sign the contract for 2011/2012, not just 2010/2011."

My program is accelerated and is only 14 mos. long. It goes from June of 2010 to August of 2011 and I just figured that I needed to sign only for 2010/2011. But obviously I don't know how they operate. She wanted me to pdf it to her right away, but since I don't have a scanner, she said she needed it 'now' so I had to take it to a fax/copy place that morning on my way to clinicals.

As far as snail mail, I think I read somewhere that the 'award of scholarship' comes via US mail. but then I'm trying to figure out how they could count on everyone being notified by a certain date if it hasn't happened yet.

And for you others, I like the dancing baby. Just don't watch for too long!

D.

Oh see I am in an ADN and I read on their website that they wouldn't take RN to BSN programs...oh well :-(... I will be happy w/ my year of help if I get it.

What did your analyst say about graduate degree options??

Yeah, Squod- what did your analyst say about it? I'm curious, too.

Just to give you an idea of how much I needed this scholarship, after paying myvschool with the loan from wells fargo I only going to get a check cut to me for only 4k for the whole year. Thatvis not enough to pay my bills support my child and to eat. I proceeded to apply for a non-certified loan from wells Fargo and was pre approved for 15k BUT cannot get it now because my paystubs from last year did not show enough earnings. I am in an accelerated program where I will do a bSN in 12 months and ha to move to Miami from NY. Now I am here with no money and few options. I guess I could try and find a job but my school tells us to stay away from that option since the program is intense and we run the risk of failing the program. My sister is going to see if she can cosign the loan but she is afraid that also will get denied based on her financial responsibilities at this moment. Really guys, I do not wish this situation right now not even to my worst enemy.

Without this scholarship it's a strong possibility that I won't be able to pay for 2nd semester because the financial aid I received from school is not enough and I don't qualify for any private loans. So I'm really praying that come Monday I get that magical email!

2 days...wait wait wait hehe.

I must say, I have been watching this blog for the last 2 weeks. I am so impressed by everyone's support for each other and genuine concern for their fellow nursing student's well being. Personally, that makes me really proud to be entering a field where I know that the future of nursing is going to lie in all of our hands and in all of our hearts. All of you are kind and nurturing and supportive and deserving. Someday, I may have the privilege of working next to one of you in the field and I would be blessed to have that opportunity. I don't hear students talking.... I hear future nurses communicating with compassion on this blog.

As I hope for myself, I hope all of you also win this scholarship and are able to continue your journeys as nurses, mothers, fathers, etc with less stress, worry and anxiety.

I am in Michigan and KH is my advisor as well. There are 124 names on the email chain that I received from Williams by accident, the same one that many of you have gotten. I have not heard from her, or anyone at HRSA other than the standard emails that you all received (the original asking for contract to be signed, the one asking us not to call HRSA, and the "mistake" one that was to go to school administration officials). I had my credit pulled from the "CBC" thing on August 11th or 13th. Other than that, I have heard nothing. Is that pretty much where everyone else is at?

As do ALL of you, I also need this scholarship. I went through a horrible divorce 3 years ago when my husband had 2 babies with a 19 year old 2 years in a row... Nice, I know. I was left with all of the bills because I was the one with the good credit at that time, while he walked away scott free. Now my credit is horrible because of it. I don't qualify for many scholarships because I am a US resident, not citizen. My citizenship is Canada. My entire family is there except for myself. I am struggling through a very expensive accelerated program, trying to find work and maintain a place to live with extreme difficulty. Jobs are scare and its a fight to get one as you all know. Wait lists for nursing programs in Michigan and in Ontario Canada are years long, so I am grateful that I am even in a program. I thank God for that everyday. My family has tried every way they can to help me but they have very little and as much as they try, its very hard for them. I am blessed that they try.

Thank you for all of your posts. Unknowingly, you have all given me hope and inspiration to continue and to aspire to be more. God Bless all of you now and through the rest of your journeys. May will all hear good news on Monday by email...... hopefully, before we all lose it due to lack of sleep, anxiety and worry. We will be writing our own care plans for ourselves soon..... Ineffective coping, Anxiety, etc. :)

Good luck ladies and gentleman. Take care.

Me too... Unfortunately. :(

Good Morning all! The stress of waiting for this scholarship is killing me!!!! I noticed a lot of you are in extreme financial distress and want to encourage you to look into government and local funding to help you through this hard time. With my fiance losing his job and myself being a full time student, I've had to take advantage of a couple of programs or my electric and water would have been turned off. Thank goodness for these programs or I dont know where I would be!!! If you would like some ideas or even some help finding some programs in your area, please dont hesitate to PM me and I may be able to help. We have enough stress with our nursing programs! Good luck to all! :::fingers crossed for Monday::: :)
