The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I completely agree. That's exactly what I am planning on doing. I will graduate in May start grad school in Sep. At that time, my husband will be in his last year of nursing school, so I will pretty much have to work full time while I'm in grad school. We have very similar reasons for making that decision.

I say go all the way, we need more FNP's now more then ever. Family Practice doctors are going to specialties to make more money and now there are to few family practitioners. I hope more and more nurses go for their FNP's especially before 2015, when you have to have a DNP to do what FNP's do now. The fact is that many nurses do not even know that they are changing the regulations 2015. I hope you and i can become friends during this journey FTSTUDENTFTMOM.....

I haven't slept in the past 2 nights. I just need to know so i can move on.,

I know how you feel!

Hey Sgoud if you don't mind me asking what school are you going to be getting your graduate degree from? All the schools I have looked at around me (Southeast TN) require at least a years worth of experience before you can attend a FNP program. Also, have you already taken your GRE?

This program does not requires you to take a GRE (depending on your home school of assignment, you have to have letters from your faculty, as well as a GPA of at least 3.0... It surprises me that you dont know about RODP. It is a joint effort between APSU, MTSU and East ten state, TSU, Ten Tech Univ, Univer of Memphis... They started this program to get more advanced practice nurses in Tn.... If you have any more questions just let me know...

And again... AGREED!! :) I feel like that 2015 deadline is already looming over my head. I start my nursing program on Monday, and I'm already stressing over grad school. Of course, my program is a standard two year program, so I'm going to be pushing it. I am looking at two different schools in this area, one I would have to request an exception on the one year experience (which I know they do depending on how you do in the undergrad program) and the other doesn't require the one year experience but has a much higher GPA requirement.

Anywho... I will figure it out eventually. I'm learning to get over the typical "instant gratification" addiction that is typical of our generation. lol It's been difficult! :)

Yeah my program was 5 semesters. Lucky for me they offer a summer program for the Military AAMED people because they have to get it done in two yrs. So I was able to sqeeze in the summer with them. Only 20 slots available. So now I will be done in May instead of Dec 2011. I know how you feel and time will fly. Before u know it u will be in Grad school... :)

I have plans to go to grad school as well for nurse midwife

I plan to get a fnp & acnp from the USA emergency np program. Question for you all. I also have hear of the 2015 change but have found no official documentaion on it, my professors say they think it will be like them saying they were going to require all rns to have a bsn, but that has never happened r/t nursing shortage. What do you all think amdhow doesrje grandfather policy work. If I in msnnp program in 2015 will j be grandfathered or do I need to be finished with it by 2015? Thoughts?

From my understanding it will be a national change, BUT each state can impliment it on their own time. The information is fuzzy. The grandfather policy will work for those that already have a FNP when the law is changed. If not you have to have a DNP to practice. So if you are in school when the change is official then you cannot be grandfather'd in. That is how I understand it and how it was explained from one of my professors. BUT u know how things things go, he said, she said, i said, u said...... That is why I want to be done with it before any changes go through...

If HRSA is to notified recipients by tomorrow then they should have had disabled your "modify your profile" tab. That is what is written on their website. That is if they are notifying recipients by mail, which according to AW's email, that is how they plan to notify you guys. But again, that website is full of contradictions.

Yeah it also says you won't be asked for your bank info unless you are being offered the scholarship :(
