The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I did see that. And also, some of the winners did not see credit checks.

Are you sure about this. I hope this is true, although it is kind of weird to award someone without knowing their credit. If they do that, they are taking a big chance with people that might have a history of not fulfilling their financial responsibilities.

It seems as though they are making a lot of changes from last years process to this years. For example, they only had the finalists fill out the banking info, the contract, and the letter of intent this year as opposed to making everyone do it last year; also, they seem to be much more prompt and on top of things than last year. I probably wouldn't compare things to last year too much...I'm sure they've figured out ways to improve this year...and they'll prob do the same next year! Good Grace to all!!

So based on the email from AW there was a list of emails that come from each analyst. There are 4 or 5 analyst. CL had 180, MC had 166, and what are the other two or three analyst? If anyone has another analyst can they count the email list from AW? I just was curious because maybe there are still credit checks being done and everyone still has a chance to get this scholarship.

Good luck to you all!

I got all the emails and have had my credit checked. I'm a bit nervous because no one has called me to verify the information about tuition that the school gave them like others. Also, it seem that other people's analysts have contacted them more (or vice versa) while I have not received any contact other than the emails sent to all of us. Does anyone know who all the analysts are (initials that is)?

Dont sweat it Alaska. The people who were contacted about fees only were contacted because the financial analysts couldnt find accurate data about their tuition and fees. Judging by the numbers, if you had your credit pulled, you have a pretty good chance. I had my credit pulled on 8/13. I recd all emails, but never recd any calls. However, I go to a Big Ten University in Indiana and the financial aid office at my school is world class. They are on the ball and know all about HRSA scholarship. I am not worried in the least that no one called me. I just let them do their thing. My analyst only had like 100 on our email list. I looked at the schools on our list and I saw the states covered were Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, KY, Ark, Iowa, Wisc, Connecticuit. That is just what I was able to tell from looking at where the schools were on the .edu emails.

Kikig42. I was wondering the same thing ... I'm especially wondering if everyone who is in my group from arthur williams really has CL because thatwould surely mean a bunch of us are alternates --- she can't possibly have 180 actualv recipients out of 500.

Joenurse2b - I reread last year's forum too and while it is true that no one ever said they got an email and then got rejected - there were several ppl who were waiting & wondering who just vanished so who can say for sure if they got it and never said so or didn't and just figurativelt stormed off --- I also never found anyone who definitely said they got it but never got a credit check although there was speculation about the possibilty of spot checks. Ps I know u were responding to soneone else & asking, not making a claim either way - I just notice u bcause we're in the same boat ;-}

I hope we'll all post our news, good or bad, if only so next year's group of hopefuls has some more ;-definitive answers to base their speculations on LOL

Sorry 4 any typos, I'm doing this on my phone ...

Does anyone who received an award last year (or anyone else) know if somehow my student loans to pay this fall's tuition will be paid off if I am awarded the scholarship. As I reread the info, it sounded iffy.

thanks!

sounds like there are 5 analysts with roughly 10 states a piece and roughly and average of 125 on the email list so about 625 or so.

dkc....if your student loan has already funded, then I am pretty sure that you would be reimbursed for your tuition then it would be your responsibility to obtain a payoff statement from your lender and then pay them back. That is just based on my previous experience in the financial services industry. I can say unequivocally that HRSA will not a cut a check to your lender if your loan has funded. You will have to take care of that.

check that; 124 on our list. So probably in the neighborhood of average of 150 per analyst times 5 is 750. I have seen that number elsewhere on here, so it adds up.

If your school receives the loan money before HRSA pays then you will get a refund check of the loan amount. Make sure you tell your school to bill for the whole tuition. You can keep the loan money (refund) or send it back to your lender. I think Im going to keep my loan money.
