The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

well, im being patient but getting discouraged. i havent had any email at all from HRSA and no credit check. im in the first preference group and applied last year too. live in maryland.

i would say all of you who have 'analysts' are in pretty good shape.

again, if you read last years thread, you will see that we all went crazy from july to october waiting.

its all good, we will make it somehow.

So has anyone received calls from CL? lol

I recieved a call from her last week. She thought I needed to sign a two year contract, I dont.

Just a thought...I think we should all leave these poor analysts alone. Stop trying to call them, stop trying to email them. They would probably work a lot faster and efficiently without hundreds of interruptions. I dont see how constantly assulting them with phone calls and emails could possibly make this process any faster. Bad mouthing them with things like "they are so disorganized" doesnt help. Think how organized they could be with out hundreds of interruptions a day. I think we should also remember that HRSA or its employees dont owe us anything. It is at their discretion who recieves the awards and who doesnt. We have all worked hard to get where we are at but none of are entitled to the scholarship.

We are all eager to know whether or not we got the scholarship. Frankly it is quite annoying to constantly see that people are slowing the process down. All the information they are going to provide is already on the website. So let it be and hope for the best.

Best of luck to everyone!

and no, I dont work for HRSA LOL

Do you not agree that they ARE disorganized? Constantly giving contradictory information over the phone...sending some of the "follow up" emails to people who had not received the initial email...sending out emails by mistake...asking people if they are still interested even after they promptly faxed their information (implying it got lost)...just to name a few. I'm sorry you are so annoyed by people trying to verify that their analyst received their documents or that their schools are following directions. Perhaps you might feel this way because you actually did receive a phone call from your analyst, making you feel like you are sitting pretty. Try putting yourself in other people's shoes...if you hadn't heard back or believed there was an error, would you wait until awards had already gone out to figure out what went wrong?

First, dont get ugly. I didnt attack you, so get off my back. Its OK for you to vent your frustration on here, but I cant? Thats really immature and selfish. Maybe you should go work for HRSA and you could boss them around and tell them how they should run things. Then you'd actually be getting paid.

Second, I have just as much doubt about getting the scholarship as anyone. So I am not over here "sitting pretty." But I sure as hell am not going to act like an entitled brat like they owe me something and then start calling people names because I didnt get what I want.

So, Britt, take your own advice and put yourself in other peoples shoes...like those who have been patiently waiting while watching others cause delay after delay after delay.

This wait is KILLING me! Just thought I would share that (it seems to be bothering everyone else, too. LOL). I am so thankful that I am even being considered though. :)

i wonder why they have to be so secretive about the selection process? Acceptance into the nursing program was the same way. If we knew how selections where made, we could wrap our heads around the whole process better. Maybe have less question because we would already be more informed. I mean you know if you fall into teh first prefrence group or not but have no clue what they use as selection criteria within the group if there are more applicants then scholarships. I would totally love to work a day in HRSA shoes so I could see the process. That's just me though, I can understand something much better when i know how it works.

I'm not getting "ugly" or on your back. I have received calls and emails from the proper people but I still feel for those individuals who are stressed and looking for answers. I just don't think it's fair of you to blame posters who have said they've tried to contact their analyst. They aren't spoiled brats, they are simply trying to cover their bases. Wouldn't you want to feel you did everything you could? This scholarship can change people's lives.

I have to agree with GreekNole. The HRSA doesn't owe us a darned thing. We will be blessed if we receive a scholarship, and should not expect or demand. A little grace goes a long way!

We have been SPECIFICALLY asked not to contact them to follow up on our applications, both on the initial application, AND through a specific email requesting we not contact them. Yet we're still contacting them?

I understand there is a lot of stress and strife over weather or not we will recieve this scholarship. I am also very curious. But you know what? What will happen will happen, and badmouthing the people who are working very hard to sort through all of the paperwork and make the decision is going to do nothing but give you negative Karma.

I hope we all receive an award, but more than that, I hope we all handle whatever decision is made with grace and gratitude.

THEY HAVE SCREWED UP MORE THAN ONCE AND IF IT WASN't for some of us they would have done SO MANY MISTAKES. DO NOT tell us what or what not to do. If you don't want to do anything then DON't, it is your decision, BUT GET OFF OUR BACKS. and you know what we should all get this scholarship. In fact education should be FREE FOR EVERYONE IN THIS COUNTRY. LOOK at other countries. They have a free education system and their system an education is WAY BETTER THAN OURS.

Come on! Let's support one another here! We are all in the same boat here people! If people want to vent let them vent! If you don't like it, don't visit this thread anymore! Geez!!

Then please feel free at your earliest opportunity to leave to one of these "better" countries.

Nobody told anybody to do anything, or not to. HRSA specifically asked us not to contact them. So drop the dramatics, we are wanting this schplarship and there are better ways to handle things than harassing people and bad mouthing them. Neither is productive. Go for a walk, eat a Twinkie, do something to chill out.

You didn't like your kindergarten thru 12th grade free education that you and your children (if you have any) received?
