The HRSA Nursing Scholarship

Updated:   Published

The HRSA nursing scholarship is available now. I just submitted my application although I'm probably a long shot.

How to Apply for a Scholarship

If you're interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, you may be eligible for a scholarship through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The HRSA Scholarship Program is designed to support students in various healthcare disciplines who are committed to serving underserved communities and helping to address the shortage of healthcare professionals in those areas.

HRSA offer scholarships to help pay for health professions' education.

All Scholarship awardees will provide a one-year service commitment for each year of scholarship support received.

The application cycle typically opens in late Winter or early Spring and closes in late Spring or early Summer, so be sure to check the website regularly for updates.

Scholarship requirements:

To be eligible for the HRSA Scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited program that leads to a degree in one of the following disciplines:

  • Nursing (including RN, ADN, BSN, and graduate-level nursing programs)
  • Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nurse-Midwife

You must also be a U.S. citizen, a national, or permanent resident.

Have no federal judgment liens and service commitment.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for scholarship through the HRSA's online application system.

Scholarship award covers:

  • Tuition and Eligible Fees
  • A monthly stipend for living expenses
  • An annual other reasonable costs payment

If you have any questions about the program or the application process, the HRSA offers resources and support to help guide you through the process. Don't miss out on the opportunity to receive financial assistance while pursuing your dream of a career in healthcare and serving those in need.

I know some people follow this thread that got it last year....a question for you:

Was there anything to sign and return when you got an award letter? If so, did you have a certain number of days to do this? Or was it more a notification that you received it? I know things change year to year, but I just want to get an idea of what happened in previous years.

I ask because I will be far far away from my mailbox if it comes (assuming they don't come today or tomorrow...which I heavily doubt they will!). I suppose I could have my sister overnight any materials from HRSA to my new place though.

I believe they had to sign the contract and return them last year. This year they have already had us sign the contract. I don't think there's going to be any way for you to know if you will have to return anything to them this year. I'm sorry! I can only imagine how stressful that must be!

last year they had to sign a contract with the original supplemental packet. When they finally go thier letters they just said they were awarded and would be hearing from someone from HRSA within two weeks, there was also a number that they could call that had an automated message giving instructions on what to do next.

Thi is one thing that keeps me wondering and hopeful. WE ALREADY SIGNED A CONTRACT and last year they had to do it afterwards. Isn't it curious that we ha to signed a contract before been "offered any awards". It usually happens the other way around with everything in life. You get the offer AND THEN YOU SIGN A CONTRACT. hoping we all get it!

I tried to call my analyst and got her voicemail saying she would be out of the office until the 23rd. I am in PA and my analyst is CL. I am going to try to get ahold of my financial aid office and ask if they have had any inquiries. I have also signed up at Free Credit Report.com and have not had any credit checks done. The suspense is killing me and I can't sleep. Any suggestions or words of encouragment?

Joenurse, last years applicants had to sign the contract as one of the first steps along with the banking info and tax form. So they had to turn all that info in along with the electronic application and other supplemental info by the application deadline to be considered. I agree it is strange!

I have CL, I still don't see that HRSA has pulled credit on my app this year as of yet. I dunno, seems like a lot of other people that have her have already had it pulled.

KH pulled my credit report today!:)

Some people have had both experian and equifax, I haven't seen either and I checked both. Bummer...

I live in TN and my last name starts with "R". It showed up on Equifax and I am not able to check Experian until I receive some kind of password in the mail (I answered some verification question wrong). It doesn't show up on Transunion.
