Hi All!

I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.

I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.

When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.

So I want to know are there any men out there?

Finally decided what I want to do when I grow up. I start Nursing classes in earnest in January. Taking A&P, and a couple other pre-reqs this semester. Very excited about the whole process. As a married person with 3 kids, it should be an adventure.

I am a senior student at the University of Detroit. I am one of 7 out of 78. I am looking forward to the hottub party my buddy (and fellow student) is throwing for our graduation with all 71 of our female students... Life is rough...

Howdy!

I'm a 24 year old father of a newborn that originally was planning on going to medical school when I was first in undergrad. To make a long story short, I had to leave college to work fulltime and worked in a local ER (I'm an EMT-B) where my interactions with the docs convinced me I didn't want to go that route if all I was interested in is primary care.

Anywho, I'm a first year student at Montgomery College in the Houston area, one of 4 guys in a class of 40. Plan to do critical care or ER nursing upon graduation, followed by quickly bridging to BSN and from there, who the heck knows. Thinking FNP, CRNA, MBA, ANP. We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

If anyone needs cardiac help, I've been a Monitor Tech for the last several years and have really honed those skills.

Am thinking about going into nursing. I'm 30 and want to change to a career where I feel like I can make a difference. I am not too fond of blood so am I totally insane to be considering nursing? If I do go ahead would you recommend starting as an LPN and the working on from there? My local community college offers LPN, 2 year RN and 4 year RN.

I'm not a guy, But I recommend you just go ahead and do the 4 yr RN program, no need to use up more money and time going to school twice for LPN then for RN, know what I mean??? Good luck!!

No, you're not insane...it all depends upon how much you dislike blood. You might want to find out if you can observe some people working in a medical situation to see how much it disturbs you (but be aware that medical privacy laws may hinder you if you want to observe at hospitals).

You can do either LPN, ADN (2 year) or BSN (4 years) depending upon your goals. The LPN is fastest, but they can have a hard time getting hospital jobs and many work in nursing homes/long-term care---which don't have the best reputation but some people like that environment. The ADN is most popular (though nursing professors don't like it), though your promotions may be inhibited if you don't eventually get a BSN. Finally, the BSN gives you the most opportunity, although it is longer and more expensive than the other two. And be aware that there are "bridge" programs to go from LPN to ADN and ADN to BSN, and often employers will help pay for it.

OK! So I was an out of work surveyor in the middle of a building slump in the out of city areas of west of England UK. No work, a divorce in process - I was 30 years old and realy down. As I had some academic qualifications I was offered a job in the local Psych. Hospital - then I was approached after a few days work - "would I like a career as a Psychiatric nurse!!!" I said some thing about "You have to be joking!" Until I was offered accomodation and a 3year contract.

To cut a long story very short - I accepted, the accomodation YES, in three years the building trade would pick up and I could return and possibly claim some extra as a "fist-aider!" And get back to building and surveying. That was over 35 years ago. You Guessed I never Went Back! - I am now a Registered Psychiatric Nurse, a Registered General Nurse, Registered Aged Care Nurse, Also Paediatrics, Accident and Emergency and now at 65years old have a senior position on a rehabilitation team for the Mentally ill - drug and alcohol induced also dual diagnosis clients in Australia -------------Change your career! GO FOR IT! Be positive and if you find its for you - Make it your life. It is so rewarding. I'm so glad I was given the chance to at least give it a go. Be positive and move on The world needs carers - nurses - positive people.

I am a male student in an ASN, RN program. I am a senior. Last year, we could end the year with the option of becoming an LPN. I took the exam and passed. Being a man in nursing is great. The thing is, I don't feel there is a problem. My school does a great job at supporting our gender in the program. The places we have rotations at are wonderful. The patients are always receptive (even the maternity rotation). I LOVE NURSING! I am not a male nurse. I am a nurse who just happens to be a man. I wonder what the first woman in office will feel like what they say she's the first female president. They don't say anything about male president. I think she might feel like we men do when they say, "Oh you're a male nurse! Nice" and they talk about the female nurses as just nurses. Fact is, men were in the profession first. Na na na na na na.

Hi to all the guys..I am new on here,came upon the site by a fluke,but

glad to be here,lol..in my 2nd yr of psychiatric nursing,skills testing comin up again real soon,catheter insertation,don't want to break the

sterile field,lol..some health assessment redemonstration comin up as well so wish me luck...practicum is going very well so far......

Male student here. Where I work there are not that many male nurses or "murses" as my friends calls us. I'm in my last semester of school and can't wait to get out there and be the best damn murse I could be.
