Hi All!
I'm a crazy father of 2 ex-premed who just recently turned down Northwestern to go into a RN program.
I already have an Associate in Science, but I'll be getting another ADN and then go to a 4 yr school.
When I went to an info session about the RN program ill be trying to get into, out of like 70 ppl only 5 were guys.
So I want to know are there any men out there?
AFTER 14 YEARS OF WORKING AS AN ACCOUNTANT I FINALLY DECIDED TO MAKE MY DREAM OF BECOMING AN R.N. TRUE.
I STARTED TAKING PRE-REQUISITE COURSES IN MAY 2003 AT MIAMI DADE COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN MIAMI, FLORIDA.
I AM WORKING ON ENTERING THE NURSING PROGRAM SOMETIME IN 2006. IT'S NEVER TO LATE TO MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE.
I KNOW THAT FOR A FACT.
I must have been sleeping when you started this thread....Great idea! Here I am in GA, 37, father of one, married been gainfully employeed in sales for nearly 10 years. Making pretty good money until last few years and need to finish degree.
Nursing appeals to me because of impact I may make. I know the tough stuff of I/O charts and some really detailed tasks that I may not enjoy. But there will be highs and lows that will even it out.
No surprise to this....I too want to be CRNA also. Don't we all? I have a doctor friend trying to talk me into Physician Assistant instead of nursing. He's the one that tells me about the "crap" nursing get dumped on with.

Have you ever thought about Nursing Informatics? I know someone who has a Computer Science Degree (B.S.) and then did a Masters RN program that got him his RN and degree in Nursing Informatics.

Yes but that would really defeat the purpose of me going into nursing wouldn't it..?
Why *** **** dont I just stay in IT then?
Sorry, but I'm tired as hell of IT and want to do something meaningful and work with other ppl.
I just wanted to say that at my college we have a LOT of male nursing students! In my micro class right now almost 1/2 are male nursing students. Most seem to be ex-firefighters, EMTs, so these are some pretty tough guys.
I think it is *great* more males are deciding to get there RN. I'm actually trying to get my husband to get his RN. He is doing Radiology right now only because he thinks being a "nurse" is to girly grrrrrrr
I too plan to get my CRNA like many of you. Hope it is ok that I posted here.

yep me 2, Im a male rn student at queensborough community college CUNY, new york. At the moment im not in school, cuz i didnt make the cut, but hopefully by next spring I will be able to transfer my credits to another community college to continue studying to earn my ADN.
Hey nice meeting you guys. Good to know that guys are trying to get involved in nursing. Had the same fears going into this program, knowing thats its mostly female dominated. In my first semester at QCC I was the only guy in the class, in my second semester again at qcc I was the only guy in the class. (gee) However in the third semester I got company, there were now 2 of us in the class. Its been fun though. I loved the clinical element of the course. Being in the hospital was and still is the best part of any nursing program. The lecture aspect was what got me why I didnt pass after my 3rd semester. I scored well on my papers, teaching projects and the practical elements in my clinical portion like setting up an iv, giving IM and SC injections, calculating dosages and so forth. If you are considering nursing GO FOR IT.
I-E-A-I-A-I-O bye.
