This is what it feels like on this forum. Could someone please enlighten me?

I just joined and have had no responses to my first 2 posts, even though I see people have read them.

I've only had people respond to me who want to argue about homebirthing.

oh well.

It looks like people have responded to your posts. You have to remember how many people are on allnurses, so there are a ton of different opinions out there.

Most posts are answered, but some are not. Dont let it get to you. Its not the cold shoulder you are getting..its just the posts getting "lost" in the midst of other posts..

I'm sorry you feel like you're getting the cold shoulder:uhoh21: It really is not personal. I read lots of posts without making comments. Sometimes they are just interesting to read, but don't pertain to me exactly. There is a lot on here to read! But, take heart, this really is a friendly place. I see you posted this in the NICU Forum--maybe your post was not seen by the people you wanted to see it? Try coming over to the Pre-Nursing Student Forum or the Nursing Student Forum. Tons of very friendly people there!

Oops! I looked at your profile and thought it said that your age was 18, but that is how many posts you've had...You probably are posting where you need to be posting:uhoh21: Anyway, just wanted to make you feel welcome:)

I'm sorry you feel that way. I've seen your posts, but not answered them because I really didn't have anything to add. I've never worked for Kaiser, so I have no input on that thread. And one of the moderators usually answers the "newbie" posts, welcoming the member and outlining the TOS.

You will see that some posts generate lots of replies, and others very few. It's nothing personal. Hope you enjoy sharing with the rest of us!

Don't worry, no one is giving you the cold shoulder! :)

I think the reason you didn't get many replies is because the questions were very specific - asking about Kaiser hospitals and leaving a job after many years. Many of us don't have experience with either topic, so that's why you didn't get responses at first.

Just keep on posting, and you'll see. It's amazing - sometimes you'll post something and get no replies. Other times it turns into a 10 page thread! It all depends on the topic and even the day you post. Sometimes the boards are hoppin' and other times not.

Welcome to the forum, and I hope to see you around more often!

I used to feel similar to you. I joined the forum about 2 years ago and just recently posted a thread that received a lot of responses. Really and truly don't take it personally. This forum is very good to be a part of and you will learn a lot from others.

My posts have drawn everything from no responses to a couple hundred. It doesn't always even have any obvious connection to the topic- there have been times when I posted things that I thought were really noteworthy and they got ignored, and times when I posted something tongue- in- cheek and it's been debated for 20 pages. Go figure... and keep posting!

Don't take it personally. Nurses are busy people! I have had to re-post some questions several times to get any answers.

I think one of th eproblems is allnurses has TOO MANY forums... people are spread all over the place.

i am sorry that you were feeling that way. you are absolutely not getting the cold shoulder. i saw your post about homebirth - but really had nothing relevant to add.

please don't feel that you aren't welcome.

There are ~ 200 forums. When I get on, I hit "new posts", then review what's been posted. (actually, I just look @ titles. There are often 2-300 posts since my last visit. ) When I find one that interests me, I go to the 1st unread post and check it out, respond or not.

It depends on your personality, too. I tend to stay away from Current Events and controversial topics that come up over and over again. And I definitely stay away from heavy debates--just not my style. (e.g., BSN vs ADN)

Since I'm a moderator, I have stuff to do about that. I come here several times a day. If it has been >24 hours, I'm not going to wade through 400+ posts, I just go to forums I enjoy.

I'd suggest you check out other forums--see if there is discussion YOU want to respond to. It's a 2 way street. ;)

I think you find that the posts that you would love or expect a response to, are not really the ones which get noticed. Sometimes I found it was the time of day I posted or the fact that what I was posting was really only interesting to me. It takes time to get used to all the forums and where the best place to post a thread for the subject you want to highlight. I am sure once you familiarise yourself you will settle in and become part of the community, which we are all addicted to.

Some members are just great at getting their post noticed and whilst yours may have been interesting, you cant comment on everybodies posts in every thread. Anyway Welcome to all nurses.

You've got a good response to this thread
