The challanges of obtaining employment

Published

I am beginning to think that I am forbidden from working at any hospital here in Omaha, Nebraska. I have applied to many positions and even had a few interviews. And all I got for it was nothing. I work at a Skilled Nursing Facility here in Omaha. Some of my co-workers who are also RN's also applied and were accepted. I am beginning to think that there must be something wrong with me. My co-workers and family tell me that I just have to give it time and that it will happen. But I don't see it that way.

Sorry if I'm ranting, I try to stay positive. I am currently working on my BSN, so we will see if that helps. I just needed to post because I needed to get it off my chest.

well, start at the beginning: take a hard look at your resume. Is it up to date, using a current format and highlighting YOU? Are you customizing the cover letter for each employer and position? Are you using the key words in the position's description in your resume?

How's your interviewing style? Are you coming off okay; are there any body language problems that maybe you aren't aware of? what about your experiences and expectations for a job?

I know that many hospital systems now use computer-moderated HR systems now, that scan resume and applications, and often do the first-level screening. You need to make sure your application is passing that first screening.

I had trouble finding a job in Omaha too, but that could have been for a number of different reasons. At the time I had just graduated/had no experience and I live in Connecticut. I love Omaha, but alas, I am working in CT. I never got so much as a call for any of the dozens of positions I applied for out there.
