I totally agree that the dream was a visit.

I lost a close friend to suicide in my early 20's and that's the one and only time I've had a deceased loved one visit me afterwards in a dream. It was lovely and I felt so much peace after that. After his death I struggled with the worries over why he did it and if he knew how much I loved him and if he knew I would have been there for him. But he came to me and just reassured me in the dream and I was at peace from that moment on.

I've lost plenty of close loved ones since but never had a similar visit. I've looked for them and wished for them but they didn't happen.

I had one other similar visit. My grandpa on my oldest daughter's 9th bday. He died while I was pregnant with her. In the dream, I was at work but family/friends kept showing up to visit me. I just had them sit and wait since I was busy with students. Then I looked over and saw my aunt who lives in NC. I went over to hug her and saw that my grandpa was next to her. I started crying and saying "I love you! I miss you! Do you see them? Do you see the kids??" and he just nodded and I woke up in a puddle of tears. I know he was coming to let me know that he checks in on us and see all his great grandkids (he has 7 on our side, my 3 and my sister's 4, he only met 1 before he passed)
