Thank You Note to GPC's Nursing Program

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

I can’t neglect to thank the faculty and staff of the GPC nursing program for my experience while enrolled. The reason it is important for me to say thanks is because my plethora of negative experiences while enrolled in the program helped me to be truly grateful for the nursing program I left GPC for.

If I had never gone to GPC and been treated like dirt by many of the faculty and staff (minus a select few – you know who you are) I would not appreciate the instructors I now have nearly as much in my new program.

My time at GPC helped me to develop a thicker skin, more confidence in myself, and a deeper faith in God because that’s the only way you will make it out of there with enough sanity to thrive in another program as I now am.

I know that many students that leave GPC’s nursing program are not able to get into other programs for various reasons. To those of you in this situation, don’t give up on your dream. GPC is not at all the typical nursing program despite what others have said. Unfortunately, many are so wounded after leaving that they don’t continue to pursue nursing.

Just a few of the things that I have in my current RN program that I did not have at GPC are:

  • Rationales provided for all tests questions
  • Polite, respectful faculty and staff
  • Returned calls and emails
  • Organization, Organization, Organization
  • Tests questions whose correct answers can be found in the required reading
  • Not having to put my family on the backburner until I finish school
  • Exam grades and a GPA that reflect the diligence that I put into my studies

Again, GPC I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unprofessional, uncaring, and blatantly unfair practices because they have served to make me a more grateful, and solid nursing student currently finishing up in another program.

God Bless

I know that GPC program is really tough....but trust me when I tell u I was really prepared for the NCLEX!!! I know the frustration with the program, but it was well worth it!!!

were you able to make it through the program without failing? i have so much to lose as i will be leaving my husband in michigan to come to school in GA during my nursing student tenure and i just cannot afford to fail not one class

i wont be working and i dont have any children, i am going to just dedicate all my time to the program. i just dont understand what is so hard about the program to the point where people make it seems as if it is impossible

Hi cheergirl,

congradulations on you acceptance for the fall 09 class, i will begining GPC in the spring. would you mind if you have time to tell me what to expect for the first semester since i will be one semester behind you? thanks in advance, i look forward to hearing from you.

Hey.....my net score was an 87, science gpa was like a 3.3, overall nursing was like a 3.7 or 3.8. Did you get a letter saying that your application for the nursing program was complete and they were reviewing it? I got a letter maybe 2 weeks after I applied that told me my nursing application was complete and they were reviewing it.

oh wow, i dint even know you responded to my post.. lol.. well since then, i was denied for the fall semester and admitted into the spring 2010

As a survivor of GPC nursing and an 07 graduate, I can say with all my heart that it was the most difficult thing I've experienced in life! I agree with everything stated above and would not recomend the program to anyone. I have heard that things are improving, but my experience was truly horrible. I have been a nurse for two years now and love it, so it was worth it all, but could have been such a better experience that it was..

I hate to groan but I have quite an issue with anyone who says that they cannot recommend a school program for what occurred 2-4 years ago. Yes, the program had issues and yes, you can say what you like, but why continue to bash a school that you haven't been to in over 2 years.

I am a recent graduate of the school as I have probably mentioned numerous times and I know that the school has its issues but it has improved and I just wish people who were part of the "old" GPC would quit bashing it as if it hasn't changed.

Another big part to look at is so far this year with the May graduates, which was well over 100, have passed the NCLEX the first time. Going through a nursing program is never going to be a walk in the park nor should it be because it it were then what would you do when you got out into the real world?

trustingGod, if all you do is commit yourself to the program then you will be good to go! It is hard but well worth it. I graduated in May and was fully prepared for NCLEX. Now, I will not say it was a piece of cake or without stress but that is for each individual to experience and handle their own way. The most positive thing I can say about GPC is that you are prepared for NCLEX~100% and isn't that what we want as an end result?

Good luck to you!

Hey,

I was one of the oldest grads in my class. I can certainly understand your situation... my husband of 29 years left me and I had no marketable job skills! Being a nurse was a childhood dream, so I persued it knowing I could have a secure job. It was very hard, but God is good and I made it. If you would like to stay in touch you can send me your email and I will respond and try to help in any way I can.

Best of luck to you!

Congrats!

My suggestions:

Read How to Survive and Maybe Even Love Nursing School. This is the best book!

This book helped me cement my decision to pursue nursing as a profession after so many years in the legal field.

I'm so grateful for this post (and all the replies), as GPC was the only school I was considering because of the accreditation and, mainly, its ADN program (finishing in 2 years, possibly).

Being a divorced mom to 2, I'm extremely nervous about attempting Nursing school, but I dream about being a nurse every day and I'm a dream-follower. :D

Best wishes to you all!

thank u cornpooh.. i really needed to hear that
