Thank You Note to GPC's Nursing Program

U.S.A. Georgia

I can’t neglect to thank the faculty and staff of the GPC nursing program for my experience while enrolled. The reason it is important for me to say thanks is because my plethora of negative experiences while enrolled in the program helped me to be truly grateful for the nursing program I left GPC for.

If I had never gone to GPC and been treated like dirt by many of the faculty and staff (minus a select few – you know who you are) I would not appreciate the instructors I now have nearly as much in my new program.

My time at GPC helped me to develop a thicker skin, more confidence in myself, and a deeper faith in God because that’s the only way you will make it out of there with enough sanity to thrive in another program as I now am.

I know that many students that leave GPC’s nursing program are not able to get into other programs for various reasons. To those of you in this situation, don’t give up on your dream. GPC is not at all the typical nursing program despite what others have said. Unfortunately, many are so wounded after leaving that they don’t continue to pursue nursing.

Just a few of the things that I have in my current RN program that I did not have at GPC are:

  • Rationales provided for all tests questions
  • Polite, respectful faculty and staff
  • Returned calls and emails
  • Organization, Organization, Organization
  • Tests questions whose correct answers can be found in the required reading
  • Not having to put my family on the backburner until I finish school
  • Exam grades and a GPA that reflect the diligence that I put into my studies

Again, GPC I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unprofessional, uncaring, and blatantly unfair practices because they have served to make me a more grateful, and solid nursing student currently finishing up in another program.

God Bless

Wow. Great letter to them.

Were the pre-reqs there just as bad?

I'm one of those. Wait listed at two different schools and I didn't have a year to wait. I moved on to teaching, which I love, but I still have a passion for caring for the sick. Maybe someday....

Nice letter. Good luck in your new program, wherever that is. GPC is NOT typical. Only those who have experienced it truly understand.

Where the pre-reqs there just as bad?

Hi,

Thanks.

No. The pre-reqs there were fine. I have met quite a few people that just take the prereqs there and go elsewhere (Emory, etc.) for their nursing degree. I highly recommend this route.

Take care.

I am glad you're enjoying teaching. You must really have a heart for others because teaching and nursing both require that. God knows we need teachers that enjoy what they do.

I wish the very best for you in teaching and if you later decide to return to nursing.

Take care.

Stillbetteryet?

What program are you currently enrolled in? as i to am looking for a good nursing program

I have heard GPC's nursing program was not a good one, I took a few classes there a couple of years ago and did okay, I enrolled into Gordon College and I just love it. I got into the nursing program there for fall 2007!

yeah i heard that GPC is improving. i actually applied there I am suppose to start my pre req's this summer but i was a little afraid after reading all the horrible post. I am just torn between whether to take the lpn program first then bridge over or go straight for the 2 year Rn. honestly I really need to gain employment as quick as possible so i thought if i did lpn i could work while waiting to be accepted into nursing... where is gordon college? i live in the atlanta area is that far from me, i am new here.

CONGRATS ON YOUR ACCEPTANCE.....i am sure you will do GREAT!

Wow. Great letter to them.

My pre-reqs were great. After I withdrew from the nursing program, I actually stayed at GPC to finish more pre-reqs that I needed to get into UGA. I have nothing against GPC as a whole. The nursing program, on the other hand, is fairly useless.

2bnurse4life, am trying to get into this program, was it hard to get in. there is not much info on the website about their program...tks

I've heard from several GPC students who are doing clinicals on my floor that GPC has gotten more reasonable and "easier". I graduated in 2006 with about 21 students and this May they are graduating 63. Something must be improving.

My sister-in-law is currently in the nursing program there (poor thing). When I asked her about the graduating class she told me not to be impressed. She said that the 63 students that are graduating are not from 1 original class. She said that it is just 2 graduating classes combined (a combination of a LPN bridge class plus another class of students that started with over 130-140 people). That's truly sad. She said that only about 25% of the original class is still there. I guess that's why they have a 100% NCLEX pass rate since only a handfull are still left at the end. That's truly unfortunate.
