Thank You Note to GPC's Nursing Program

U.S.A. Georgia

I can’t neglect to thank the faculty and staff of the GPC nursing program for my experience while enrolled. The reason it is important for me to say thanks is because my plethora of negative experiences while enrolled in the program helped me to be truly grateful for the nursing program I left GPC for.

If I had never gone to GPC and been treated like dirt by many of the faculty and staff (minus a select few – you know who you are) I would not appreciate the instructors I now have nearly as much in my new program.

My time at GPC helped me to develop a thicker skin, more confidence in myself, and a deeper faith in God because that’s the only way you will make it out of there with enough sanity to thrive in another program as I now am.

I know that many students that leave GPC’s nursing program are not able to get into other programs for various reasons. To those of you in this situation, don’t give up on your dream. GPC is not at all the typical nursing program despite what others have said. Unfortunately, many are so wounded after leaving that they don’t continue to pursue nursing.

Just a few of the things that I have in my current RN program that I did not have at GPC are:

  • Rationales provided for all tests questions
  • Polite, respectful faculty and staff
  • Returned calls and emails
  • Organization, Organization, Organization
  • Tests questions whose correct answers can be found in the required reading
  • Not having to put my family on the backburner until I finish school
  • Exam grades and a GPA that reflect the diligence that I put into my studies

Again, GPC I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unprofessional, uncaring, and blatantly unfair practices because they have served to make me a more grateful, and solid nursing student currently finishing up in another program.

God Bless

Hello! I will be starting the nursing program in the spring!:D I am so excited yet nervous. Does anyone have any advice on where to get my textbooks for cheap, what kind of stethoscope to buy, is there a place around Atlanta where I can get my supplies cheaper, etc. Also I would like to know of a place to get CPR training. This information will be extremely helpful for I am so broke! Are there any other students out there accepted for spring 2010??

I found all the required books at "half.com" for really cheap. I also bought a Littmann Classic II S.E. Stethoscope and it has worked out really well for the Clinical's and the Clinical's Lab. I know some have bought cheaper ones and they have worked also. I recommend "Executive CPR and First Aid" is you live west of town and http://www.heartrescuers.com if you live east of town. Hope to see you at GPC - Nursing with us. :)

Thank you so much for your help! I was able to find most of the books online for cheap. Can anyone tell me what to expect at orientation? How often are clinicals?

Orientation really goes over a lot of stuff. Take notes, but don't freak out if you don't understand everything they are talking about, it will come later. Get you a GREAT big 3 ring binder with dividers for class notes. It's a really good idea to tape lectures and listen a second time.

You won't start clinicals until about mid semester of Fundamentals, then it will be twice a week for only 4 weeks if I remember correctly... its been a couple of years. You don't get your clinical instructor assignment until later either, so don't sweat about it. DONT freak about anything you hear negative about instructors... all have good and bad, and it does no good to listen to negative gossip. Also, you can learn good stuff at any hospital even if you have to drive, so don't sweat it. You get more clinical time in the next 3 semesters. Don't worry, you will learn to hate that white uniform!

Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Hi GloryB.. i was just looking over this post and read that you extended a hand to me..THANK YOU.. although i can not pm you my email address is [email protected].. please send me an email at your earliest convenience

i am going to go to gpc's program this fall. i have been a gpc student for 2 years now, and have nothing to say except, it is pretty good. i love their instructors. btw it is not easy to get into the gpc' nursing program!!! it is just like others schools! i think if you have the will, the drive to become a nurse, you can do it through any school. there is no easy way out in nursing school, you have to work your butt off. so if you're lazy, then it isnt for you!
