Texas Women University FALL 2016

Published

Anyone applying to Texas Women University? I recently attended an information session and spoke to Ms.Victoria the nursing coordinator for TWU. What are your stats? What advice to you give when studying for the TEAS? I know you have to apply for TWU first then get accepted. Then you apply to TWU NURSING. But I am somewhat confused on that process. I went to the apply portal and it does not give me the option to apply for FAll of 2016. I may have to wait. Any current TWU students that can give me any advice on the application process. It will be of great help. Thank you!

Hello Valerie,

How was the science portion? I am taking the TEAS next Wednesday.... I just finished taking Micro, Chemistry and statistics, which gave me a better understanding on the science portion. Also, how did you manage your time in the reading section. I heard that most students run out of time. Is it better to start from the end of reading section?

Thank you!

Great stats by the way!

Hi everyone! New to this thread. I submitted my application to TWU Dallas last week. My pre-req GPA is 3.56 and my adjusted individual total TEAS score is a 94%. Hoping for the best! Good luck to everyone!

Hi Moni! Thanks! The science portion from what I can remember was extremely random. There was a lot of physics stuff on there that I had to make an educated guess on. Stuff that wasn't covered in any of my science classes. My advice would be to study that section of the book like crazy and take practice tests!

As far as the reading section, I am a pretty fast and avid reader, so I didn't have any issues with time. I actually had a lot of time leftover. But I have heard of a lot of people saying they didn't have enough time. I would say just practice, and do the practice tests.

Hope this helps!

Hi everyone,

I just got my results back from the TEAS V I took yesterday at PSI. I made a 92. The toughest section for me was reading. I ran out of time on the very last question. I don't think it would be of benefit to you to start from the end and go backwards. I think you may miss something in between and the computer program is a bit awkward to do just that. You waste time in scrolling through the entire exam and it would take more time to move back than forward but that is my opinion. They asked me a few items that I never saw in the ATI review book for this section. I remember being asked about similes and metaphors. I think I missed 7 questions in this section. The math was very easy for me. I missed just one question there. Science was easy too for me (I was a math/science teacher for many years). The questions I missed were Anatomy questions but only missed 2 in that section. The English section was full of pronoun-antecedent agreement but wasn't too bad.

I was surprised I did as well as I did. I studied about 5 days for the test. I went to the ATI website and did a practice test there and that helped. I bought both the ATI study guide as well as the McGraw-Hill practice tests (5 tests with answer/explanations). It was all helpful but the test was not exactly like what I had seen in those books. If you do that much, you all should be fine. I would not advise anyone to go in and take it without adequate preparation.

My stats are:

Science GPA: 4.0

Pre-requisite GPA: 3.94

TEAS V: 92%

The report stated I was in the 99th percentile for both national and program rankings. I have completed my nursing CAS application and it was accepted, and was accepted into TWU last summer....so now I just wait I guess. I hear we will find out in mid-March.

Good luck everyone! Don't freak out about TEAS V, you will do fine, just be sure to study!

Hi moni, see my post below...I ran out of time in reading but only on the very last question. Good luck Wednesday!

@BEARFUR

Wow! Great stats! Thank you! Reading is my weakest subject and I am very worried about that section. How would you rate the science section?

Moni,

I am probably not the best person to answer that question, but the science section was fairly easy for me. I have taught chemistry, biology, and physics for 29 years so I am very biased with my review of the science section. I missed a couple questions, they were Anatomy & Physiology questions. Some of the science questions were strange, such as which of the following would show change when looking from a satellite that took pictures each year for 10 years? The answer was de-forestation. There were a lot of chemistry questions such as atomic mass and atomic number. Know how to calculate the mass of an isotope and know the mass of the 3 subatomic particles. Know chemical similarity exists when elements are in the same group/family (columns), know the formula for kinetic energy, KE = 1/2mv^2 & that any change in velocity has a squared effect on the KE...and KE or the energy of motion will result in heat. Know how to write chemical formulas and balance equations...that kind of thing. Know how serial dilutions work, how pH works (a difference of pH of 2 is actually an ion concentration difference of 100 since 10^2 = 100. Biology questions seemed all over but a lot had to do with ecology, food webs, energy flow from the sun to producers, first & second consumers...etc. Know your A&P well...some very specific questions there but can't remember what they were now.

Reading was the most difficult for me as well so focus on that if that is the worst for you too. I read slowly so that is the problem. I also think the reading questions are tricky! The reading questions I didn't do as well on was information source comprehension. The passages did not seem very much like what I had studied from the ATI book or the McGraw-Hill book, but then again I took "Form E" at PCI which is a testing center. I believe other testing centers have more of a direct affiliation with ATI so you may have and "easier" test or at least that is my understanding from the posts I have read.

Again, good luck to you!

You guys, I think I may have taken the wrong TEAS... I thought I was taking the TEAS for BSN but at the top of my ATI report where it says program type, it says ADN!

And my science portion seems quite different than everyone elses! It contained human body science, life science, earth and physical science, and scientific reasoning...

I don't think it matters. I took my test at PSI and it said the same thing on my score report. When I registered and paid for the exam, I linked my test to Texas Woman's and they do not have an ADN program. Some ADN programs have similar test requirements as BSN programs. The test we took was the same number of questions as the TEAS test needed for BSN programs so I don't believe it's different.

@bearfur Thank you so much. Great advice! I have went over the ATI book more than once, so I am hoping to get a passing score that will get me into the program. I definately think that you will be accepted. I have already finished the application for CAS, but I have a few questions.

How do you send the transcripts to CAS?

I did not get a pop up link after manually putting in my transcript grades for the college I attended.

Yeah I was thinking the same because TWU doesnt have an ADN program.. but wow am I relieved! I was so worried that I'd have to take it again

Thank you so much, I appreciate the help. Good luck im sure you'll get in, you have amazing stats!

Yeah how exactly do you send in the transcripts? Because on the CAS application, they said to attach a transcript form to the transcript. So i downloaded the form and this is what it said:

"Instructions to the Registrar:

Please attach this form directly to the official transcript for the above applicant and forward the officialtranscript (see requirements below) in a sealed envelope directly to: (gives the address)

The transcript must meet the requirements below to be considered official” by NursingCAS• A Registrar's seal and/or legible signature included on the transcript.• Must be mailed directly to NursingCAS from the Registrar's Office.• Cannot be marked Issued to Student” or Student Copy.”• Must reflect all relevant, correct information for the student identified above."
