Texas State University Fall 2017

Published

I know applications are just going out but I thought I would start a thread so that anyone applying to Texas State this semester can share their stats/questions/comments

Im currently sitting at a:

Prerequisite: 3.55

Science: 3.39

Teas: 93 composite & 99th percentile

What about you guys?

If you have already paid for it, personally, I'd retake it for two reasons. I remember going to the info session before I applied and Lynn said to look at the averages of the previous classes. If you were below that average, it'd be a good idea to retake. While your Math section can't be improved (well done!!), you're below the average on the other 3 sections. There's no way to tell, right now, the strength of scores of the other applicants. Also, if you look at the profiles over the last 5 years, for the most part the average for each section has gone up each year. From 2015-2016, there were 4-5 point percentage differences in each of the sections. I'd want to be comfortably over the average.

The other reason I'd retake is b/c you can only apply to TXState SON twice. I would absolutely be kicking myself if I had an opportunity to retake something to get a better score only to find out (too late) that it might have made a difference. Kwim? The only thing you're giving up is time.

Anyone taken the TEAS Exam twice? I currently have an appointment to retake it on Tuesday but I am seriously considering not doing it. First attempt scores:

Composite 90%

Reading 91.5%

Math 100%

Science 80.9%

English 83.3%

Would yall retake it?

You have a great score, 90% of above average. If anything, maybe your Science score is a bit lower than the usual, but overall, you have a good score; I got the exact same score you did but different subject scores.

If you take it again, but you do worse, they will keep your 2nd score. I'm pretty sure that is what I was told by my Academic advisor at Texas State. I asked her if taking a 2nd test was ok and she said I'm risking doing a bad score and them taking the worse score out of the 2.

This does not align w/ what Lynn has been telling prospective students. If you go onto the SON site, there is a powerpoint presentation available. A few slides in, it says that they will not cherry pick scores between tests (e.g., take your math from test one and everything else from test two). But, they will take the highest set of scores between the two exams- they don't automatically take your second attempt.

So I did retake the TEAS and I'm so glad I did! I did so much better the second time.

I applied with:

3.66 GPA

4.0 Science GPA

94.7% Composite TEAS

Good luck everyone!

All of y'all are gonna get in! If you have a 90 or above on the TEAS I can almost guarantee your acceptance. The TEAS is the biggest predictor of NCLEX success and that the ultimate goal.

Any student who is so excited and dedicated to nursing to be using allnurses.com to chat about admissions will most likely be a VERY strong candidate. There are so many Pre-nursing students at TXST who are trying to apply without even having the minimum GPA. All of y'all on this thread are wonderful students! Give yourself the credit you deserve! You just have to be 1 out of 100 students, you don't have to be #1! Hahah just a little perspective! Love my fellow nursing students :)

Wow my science is a 3.7 not a 3.3! I completely calculated it wrong whoops

hey guys! I wanted to join in on the chat while we anxiously wait for the results!

What kind of chance do yall think I have?

Overall GPA: 3.72

Science GPA: 3.74

TEAS Composite: 87

Reading: 91%

Math: 90.4%

Science: 76.7%

English: 96%

my science score was a little low..but do yall think this is competitive? My advisor told me that it was okay to have a low science score cause science is something they can teach you in nursing school but things like reading and writing they can't teach. Despite that info, I'm still a little nervous..what do yall think?

Yes you are totally fine! You are a strong candidate.

You'll get in lol don't stress.

Hi guys! I also applied for this coming fall! You guys are making me nervous with your fabulous stats! Great job! When I took the ATI Teas in December the woman advised me to stick with my first score and not retake since I did so well. I was a little bummed about my Science score but took her advice. Now I am seeing higher scores ugh! The wait is agonizing! Obviously would love to hear if anyone hears about background checks or anything!

My composite: 90.7%

Reading: 91.5%

Math: 96.9%

English: 87.5%

Science: 83.0%

Science GPA: 3.69

All pre: 3.17

I am a returning student and transferring in. My biggest concern is my overall because I didn't do well the first time at UT, hence the lower prerequisites GPA. But it was many years ago so hoping it isn't as big a deal as my new stuff? Any thoughts?

I seriously think if just one of your GPAs are low and you got a 90 or above on the teas it will make up for it and you'll get in. They just want to see if you'll be able to pass the NCLEX. That's the most important thing.
