My husband is most likely being relocated to DFW area. We have never been to Texas. We have no idea what area is best for a family. I currently work for HCA. How are the HCA facilities in the area? Which is the best to work for? Should I consider another employer? What is the pay for exerienced RNs? I have heard Flower Mound is nice, but clueless as to where that is in relation to everything else. Also, we have a 14 year old about to start high school, what is the best school district?

Although the HCA facilities have a shady reputation in the DFW area, many people enjoy working for that company. Therefore, it all depends on what you are looking for in a workplace.

With a few years of experience, you can earn in the high $20s to low $30s per hour depending on your specialty.

Flower Mound is desirable with good schools and is located north of Dallas. However, you'll likely have a commute if you live there. Personally, I prefer to be directly in the middle of Fort Worth and Dallas, so I would go for a city such as Euless, Grapevine, Arlington, or Grand Prairie. Euless and Grapevine have acclaimed school districts. Arlington and Grand Prairie are larger cities.

If you live in one of the Mid-Cities, you will be a short hop, skip, and jump away from any workplace in the DFW area, so I would strategically plan where to live.

Thank you so much for that info! All of it! What are some other employers in the area?

Even though I use this as a tongue in cheek reference.....it is also a great search engine.

Let me google that for you

Thanks, I have googled it a few times now. The problem is I can't quickly separate the HCA facilities from the non-HCA facilities, except for the university facilities. So, I guess I will look at the universities for opportunities apart from HCA. I am happy with my HCA facility, but if they have a shady reputation there I don't want to be a part of it. I have read on this site that it's difficult to obtain RN jobs in DFW, I hope that trend is ending.

If you are an experienced nurse, you will have a much easier time finding a job -- particularly if you have experience in a high demand clinical area.

Welcome (in advance) to Texas! I hope you are able to delay your move until Fall, when the weather gets a bit cooler. Summers can be "surface of the sun" hot and that will make your acclimation more difficult.

Thanks! I'm am sort of looking forward to the move. A fresh start can be good! But all my family is here and I am a family girl. It will be tough. I live in Florida so I don't think the heat will bother me too much. I'm more concerned about the cold winters! Lol! Thanks again!

I work for HCA and am very happy. The suburbs have better school districts than the main city areas and most have two or three of their own hospitals including HCA, Baylor and THR. Best areas in Dallas are Plano, Frisco, Allen/Fairview. These are very nice towns with renowned school districts and lots of focus on families. All have their own hospitals and are well within reasonable drive times of one another.Welcome to Texas :)

Thanks for that info. I am glad to hear you are happy with HCA. I love my HCA facility. We have great management. The other HCA facilities in my area don't have employees who are as happy as mine. And the 401K is so good, I don't want to give that up. :specs:

I will look into HCA and the others when we come to visit. We should know next week if we are coming or not. Until then I'm going to try not to think about it so much. I'm a planner so I keep finding myself trying to figure it all out before we know what is going to happen. Gotta stop that! lol

I know nothing about HCA in DFW, but I just wanted to give you a premature Welcome To Texas!!!

I was going to make a joke about the best way to fit in Dallas, but I don't want to accidentally offend anyone, so I'll refrain. :)

Best of luck in your move and job hunt!

Thank you so much. Texas seems like a very friendly place

I'm going to concentrate on not looking at jobs, homes, and worrying about the difference in cost of living until I know for sure. I have spent hours looking for homes and jobs and it may not even happen  But that's me, I'm a planner and a worrier.

Medical City Dallas is a big HCA hospital in North Dallas. Have you looked there?
