It is testing week here.
Lord help me. Beer me strength.
The kids keep coming. I have admin calling home to every child that is absent asking why they aren't at school. Even going so far as to drive to a house to pick two students up so they could make it for the test.
Every child I've had to send home (which has been a lot actually) has been because of a fever or vomiting. And admins will come and hound me as to why I am sending them home. Trust me, I know testing is important, but unless you want more kids out tomorrow, you need to let me send these home today.
My question is: why can't we be this attendance crazy on regular days? Why is testing so special (really I know why) but we are jumping through hoops to get kids here this ONE week when you have students with 30 or more absences the rest of the year.
Just a little vent guys... BUT HAPPY SCHOOL NURSES DAY TO ALL MY "CO-WORKERS"!!!!!!

Much to our administrator's dismay, we tell the parents that they can always take the makeup. Would you rather your child test with a 101* fever or when they're feeling well?
Then again, there are some who still strive for that @#&%$%^ perfect attendance award no matter who they infect.

BWHAHAHA!!
Previous poster said "follow the money" and I agree...although admin's made a big effort to convince the high-stakes testers to do makeup instead of testing when they feels sick....thereby likely needing to retest because they didn't do well, thereby being flagged in the system as "at risk..."
We're in the middle of the SECOND WEEK of AP testing.

It's easier for me on testing days. I don't get many kids in my office during these days and they actually try to stay in class like a trooper. I hate state testing because on how much stress it gives the kids and teachers, but what else can we do? I been giving peppermints and water when they come for a break, which is understandable.
Ugh. My kids have doubled. So many tummy aches from test anxiety. The amount of pressure we are putting on our kids (and teachers really) for these standardized tests is RIDICULOUS, but that's another soapbox for another day...
I completely agree, I don't want a sick kid here, let them make up the test, if they are truly sick, they will have a doctors note.
AND THE SNACKS!! It's like the freaking snack train is going through all day apparently. Which is great for my diabetics by the way.

You took the words right out of my mouth!!! My exclusion policy is the same regardless of what day it is. First day, last day, testing day, random Monday!!!
Consistency PEOPLE, PLEASE!!!

We had testing week, and they wouldn't let the students see me unless it was a medically necessary...you know, how it should always be

We are testing this week as well, and they will go to your house and get you if you do not show up! Already had to go to 2 this morning!!
And unless you are in the hospital, you WILL take the test! I can't even send anyone home if they are truly sick and already started the test, the mUST finish. It is crazy!
Plus, this testing puts WAY too much pressure on kids, I see it in my own children! They freak them out about it, yet it doesn't even matter for the kids how they do, it is all about how your school looks on paper! SO WRONG on on so many levels!
Our last state mandated test is today...tomorrow we go in to full day care status until the final bell for this school year.
