test on monday 10/03 starting to freak a little

Published

Ok it's Friday and taking the RN boards on Monday. Starting to feel weird all over. not sure what to do this weekend. Need to do a little venting so decided to tell my adventures getting to this point after graduating. First, I graduated in December 2003. I had a ticket for driving without a lic. From 10 years past on my record. In California this is a misdemeanor so i have a criminal record. This means, I had to go through the diversions program like someone with an assault or drunk driving or other like offense. Same ticket today would only be a infraction not a misdemeanor. Anyway after going through all paper work and waiting a year went by. I studied about a month and took the exam back in april. Failed it with 265 questions. So I took a couple months off. Then I made flashcards from my review book on everything. I mean everything, I reworded everything, did I mention everything, in a question that best helped me "get it". Spent about a month and a half doing this. Making anywhere from 50-200 flash caards with 2-4 question on each a day. I don't know how many of these flash cards I have but it's into the thousands. Had them in stacks in peds, ob, psyc ect.. and went through them one by one not trying to focus hard on anyone just beginning to take out the ones I readily knew. It took about 2-3 week to go through them once. After that I went through them again still not really focusing hard but removing the easy ones I missed from before. This time I took one from each stack and made them in mixed piles. Separated them in smaller piles and reviewed one stack till I felt ok (not good) just ok about it. Kept doing this focusing more and more tell I got to a few hundred cards. Divided these into 3 stacks. One for meds, one for describing, assessment, s/s and DX results type questions, and one for treatments, interventions type questions. Going over these again and again. About 2-3 weeks ago I decided to start with questions. I have two disks I use with about 2500 questions. Was getting 80% average on one and 73% average on the other one. Signed up for the Moby's CAT test and took the first one like it was the real test. I got butterflies and everything. Stopped at 75 questions, got a 94% with a 0.124 level. So I rescheduled my exam. Every test I have took on the CAT stopped at 75 questions and level of diff. has gone up a lot on each test. Friends came from 4 different countries came to visit for 3 days. Ended up getting going out and got drunk Saturday before the test (test was on that Wednesday 9/28/05). Big mistake, I changed the test date to this Monday 10/03 at 1:00pm. I now have got the last two CAT tests results at .664 and .666 level and 99%. Still getting 75%- 80% on my other disks. Did find my weakness, you guessed it I am a guy and OB/peds is my weak points. Focusing on those the past 2 days think that is the reason for my increase in test scores. I did find that I did not start to get repeat questions until like test number 4-5. I think because I keep going up a lot on difficulty level with each test. Noticed that repeat questions started to appear when I got stuck on a certain level. I study during the day on weak points and tested at night the past few days. Didn't review tell the next day. Then I reviewed first thing before studying (flash cards I made). Now it's Friday. I have 2 day to go. Feel like I was ready yesterday, but then again not sure i am ready now. Don't know what to do, just take test questions or keep doing the same (going over myself made cards and testing). Don't want to over do it. But don't want to lose any focus. I have nothing going on this week end. No work no play nothing just getting ready. So what should I do keep studying all day or scale it back and end up doing nothing, or just a little on Sunday (have football to distract me) the day before?????? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

well i am a night owl and ended up taking another mosby CAT exam couldn't help my self. anyway for the fist time it did not stop at 75 questions with my probability. i got a little worried because these were all new questions not one repeat that i noticed. i kept on going and it stopped at 88 questions. wow i can not believe the score. it is 99% probability with a difficulty level of 0.777. i was already feeling too confident IMO. man i hope i know the first two question on the real test, it would really suck if i got stuck on the first question after all this. i mean i really feel like i know more than i ever did. its been 2 years since school, even though i did get really good grades i dont want to have a false confindence going in. well one more day, i so wish i could take it in the morning. but nooo i have to wait tell monday. ahhh i feel better already. and all my teams won today, angels usc and ucla, heck even the dodgers won. hope my luck holds up for just one more day.

Best wishes on the exam. I went the "other route" and didn't prepare much at all. Just memorized my own lab values for normals and read up on how to answer questions. I'd made good grades in a good program and everyone assumed I'd sail through the NCLEX.

Wrong! It didn't shut off at 75 questions and I panicked. I could hardly read the words on the screen. It was just miserable. So I figured "At least I didnt fail yet or it wouldn't still be asking me." The machine went on for 175 questions. I was absolutely certain I'd failed, since I had to just guess on too many questions.

Beat myself up all the way home (2 hours) and for the next two days. It was SOOOOO worth the $7.95 to see my score. I passed! With 170 questions.

I sure wish you the best. Go get 'em!

Good luck to you. :)

hey eveyone its that time. taking the boards in 3.5 hours from now. just wanted to thanks for the support. i dont feel all that nevous, i know i will when get close to the building though. feel more like finally its time to do this. my thinking going in is, take my time. read the question twice then read the answers once reread the question then think about the answer. i think from the mosby tests i took i developed a focus on each question. i am not really trying to pass the test as a whole(well i am but) more focused on getting a higher level question. so each question becomes a test all by itself. need to stay focused on whatever question is in front of me inorder to advance to a higher level question on the next one. did not study at all yesterday. hope nothing leaked out, cause i hate it when that happens. ok need to get another cup of coffee. wish me luck cya and thanks again everone

ok time to go. have about an hour drive to get there. well let you know how it goes. aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. sorry needed that.

Best Wishes to you!!!!:)

hey all just got back. i nailed it. 75questions. after the 3rd question they were all priority question and alternitive type with a couple med questions. no math or lab stuff and i know for sure i got the last one right. it was a O.B. check all that apply question relating to placenta previa. now i just have to wait for my lic. thank god i knew my patho really well. it made it easy to pick the right answer. i think my reef tank help too. i have a 150gal coral fish tank, that really helped with the chemistry. cause i am alway playing with the levels in the tank and making adjustments. anyway thanks everyone. when i get the official results in the mail i will tell everyone about it.

Well, the Yanks will be ready for ya. :D

Great!!!!!Personally, I'm pulling for Astros, living in Austin and all. It took me 175 but I passed and it counts anyway. Good for you. Congratulations

thanks, looks like between cindynet2 , siri and i have the nation covered. west coast east coast and now south coast:rotfl: . but i lost my monkey:bluecry1: can anyone help me find him. only thing that really sucks right now is i live in cali and have to wait forever and a day to get my results "officially". wish we at least had an unofficial result like everyone else but nnooooooooo cali has to be different. i asked at the test center why cali does not get the unofficial results like everyone else and the lady told me cause californias were special j/k, she really said be cause there is so many people taking it they can not do it, i dont buy it. but never the less have to wait forever to get the results. well since the astros are a national leg. i guess i can pull for them a while:wink2: .

AAHHH HA, i found my monkey. series all even 1-1 go get'um angels. o by the way its now offical I PASSED.hehehe only took 2 days to get results. wow i was all ready to sit back for the next 20 days or so. darn i was kinda looking foreword to kicking it for a while. now i have to go out and get a job. funny thing yesterday i talked with 3 different hospitals and told them i was waiting for results. i can call them today and say, ok its offical i am an RN. o yeah i just love saying that. thanks for all support everyone you were all very helpful.

The major reason that CA doesn't have early results is that they will permit a new grad, that attended school in California, to actually sit for the NCLEX exam before they have received their final sets of transcripts. They will accept a student list in advance from the school that says "expected to pass and complete the program." They cannot legally give you a license until you have documented proof of completing the coursework.
