Carson Newman Fall 2010?

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Just curious if anyone will be attending Carson Newman nursing in the Fall? I have been accepted to their nursing program and I am really excited. :)

I have been accepted too! I have also been accepted to Lincoln Memorial nursing (BSN) and really don't know which school to go to...im having a really hard time deciding. Why did you decide on CN?

Well, I also applied to Roane State, Walters State and Pellissippi State (their nursing program is brand new). I'm still waiting to hear back from those 3, but I have decided on C-N because even though it's pricier, I already have a B.A. so I figured that since any program is going to be two years, it only makes sense for me to go all the way and get my B.S. now, instead of later. Have you applied to any of those 3?

I didn't apply to LMU, so I can't compare it to C-N. On this site, there seemed to be a lot of negative comments about LMU (and in all fairness maybe the program is a lot better now) and that concerned me a little bit. However, for me, the biggest thing is the driving distance since I live in Knoxville. C-N is about 30-35 miles and LMU is over 60+.

Haha it is so difficult! Ok so you applied to those others...those are all A.S.N programs aren't they? You are difinitely right...the B.S. direction is best, I think. No, I didn't apply to those because I'm only interested in a BSN because I've already been at Pellissippi for two years. I want to keep going to school after I'm an RN too. I know, on this site many people don't have good things to say about LMU. I applied to C-N, LMU, ETSU and thought about King, but King College hasn't even started nursing apps yet!

So you are planning on commuting to C-N? I live in Maryville and figured it'd be best to get a house/apmt if I did go there. LMU is sounding good to me though because they are starting their first ever BSN program in Knoxville this fall. Many professors/advisors have told me the staff and program at C-N are very, very respected, however...and getting a great job after graduating from their program is so easy! I'm thinking C-N may be worth it to pay rent for a couple of years...especially if the teachers and program are as great as everyone's saying.

Have you gone and taken the TEAS exam yet? I am going on Friday.

Hey courtneylane, I just sent you a PM.

Ok got it. For some reason I can't email...I don't think I have enough posts yet. Oh, I had no idea clinicals would be all over the place! So maybe I could still go to C-N and not waste money on rent, and do clinicals in Knoxville like you. Hmm so that recruiter did say BSN may become the new standard? What is ADN..is that another name for associates? Thats good you've taken TEAS already...I am having to study for it and also my finals now and I am so stressed!

No, I don't know anyone personally who completed the LMU program, unfortunately. And since this is a new program I would be in...no one really knows how it's going to be anyway...

Hey, I just got my acceptance letter from Roane State yesterday and so now, my husband and I are really crunching the numbers financially and I'm not sure if I want to invest that kind of money for my BSN right now. Due to income, I would not be eligible for financial aid (maybe only grants), and so Roane State is looking a lot more attractive now!-LOL I'll just get my BSN after and hopefully the employer will pay for it. I'm already registered for a CHEM 101 class this summer (last class needed for C-N) that I'm still going to take since it will be needed for my BSN anyway. The ADN is the "Associates Degree-Nursing". Roane State has 3 locations where you can sign up...Harriman, Knoxville, and the Oak Ridge campus....Orientation is on May 18th, so I'll get more info then. If you can afford C-N in whatever way possible, I say by all means go for it!!!

Hello ladies, I too have been accepted to CN's BSN program. I've been an LPN for 18 years and really should have done this a lot sooner. I just finished Nutrition and Statistics at Pell. State and starting June 1st, I will be taking history and public speaking before starting CN in August. I took my TEAS test on April 30th and did pretty well amazingly! I've already been registered for the Fall term and will be taking 16 credits. Yikes! Very nervous but excited too. I live in West Knoxville and just used my tax return to buy a little Honda prelude to get back and forth to school! Good luck to all of you in your decision making process and I hope to meet some of you there!

I'm starting the accelerated BSN program at C-N in the fall. I have a B.S. degree in a completely unrelated field, so thankfully I have most of my pre-reqs out of the way.

adnornilknarf - Are you already registered for fall? I was told I had to attend an orientation program before I could register for any classes. Hoping I'm not too far out of the loop! (I did pass the TEAS exam on April 30 and have done my background check - I think all I'm missing is my physical exam.)

chctwqueen - did you decide on Roane State or C-N? I looked at both too, but missed the deadline for Roane State and decided I'd rather get on with the BSN instead of the ADN.

Hey to all.....just wanted to share my advice as a recent Carson Newman Nursing grad.....recent as in May 2010! I personally loved my time at CN.....I started there as a freshman and took all my classes there throughout school. If you want a school where your professors know your name, give the class their cell phone and home numbers, pray for you often and especially before tests and exams, and where they sincerely want you to succeed then CN is the place for you......however yeah it is expensive and that part stinks as I begin to pay back my student loans :( But I really loved it there and not every day was perfect but for the most part I could not have asked for more.

Good luck as you all start out and don't give up because the road is not easy but it is worth it in the end!
