Temple College 2015

Published

Hello, I just wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for the LVN or RN programs at Temple College for 2015. We can share information, discuss any concerns, talk about the HESI exam, getting cleared through the Board of Nursing, or the just nursing program in general! Those of you that are already in the program are more than welcome to chime in.

PLEASE NOTE: I am in no way taking responsibility for any wrong information given, nor will I moderate this thread. I just want to meet new friends and support one another through the process of applying and getting our acceptance letters!

Yes, i think...the lady told me to bring my updated transcripts as soon as I was able to get my final grades posted for this semester. Well its certainly harder then when I took AP1 as my only science course but I did very well on it and just felt like taking micro and AP2 would be manageable. I am about halfway through the classes and have A's in both it just requires more strategic studying. I have to be a little more on top of it but I feel taking these 2 courses at the same time will help in the nursing program in the long run.

Since your applying for the ADN program do you know if it is alright with the nursing program at TC to take the HESI Exam at another college since TC only gives it certain months out of the year?

Thanks

TC only does it once a year due to staffing. They only have enough staff to cover the freshman and the sophomores. We have limited space as is, we have to split our class into 2 groups due to limited space. If they had admissions twice a year like the others, we'd have no space, and not enough teachers.

And im not sure about the hesi. Its the same test everywhere, but im guessing since u have to pay for it at the different colleges, that would be the only one they would accept. Im not 100% certain though.

And yes, Lisa. They used the highest grade you make :) so if u retake it and make an a, thats the grade they will use!

Today I went to pick up an application and I was the 59th person

Yes, you can take it at another college. You can only take the 3 sections offered though and the transcripts must state that you did not use a calculator during the exam. It's only offered at that time because you must turn in an application by April 1st and you need your hesi scores to pick up the application. It is much easier to just take it at Temple if possible.

I was looking over some study material online for the HESI exam and I noticed that it mentioned that there was a drop down calculator that would show up on the screen on the math section of the exam. So does TC allow for the drop down calculator that is provided on the HESI exam to be used?

Nope, you have to do all of the math by hand. It is very manageable however, just remember how to multiply divide add subtract for fractions and decimals. Then practice converting between decimals fractions and percents and how to work with ratios and basic unit conversions and you should be ok.

Thanks for the information.

In some of the study material I have for the HESI I noticed that most of the math questions are multiple choice....but there are some where it gives you information and then says to enter the answer. So in the actual test are all questions multiple choice or are there some that are fill in the blank?

Also, I was surprised that there were question about Roman numerals....I didnt think that would have anything to do with nursing.

Most are multiple choice and there are probably 10 or so fill in the blank questions. Math was the worst subject for me going into the hesi and after about a week of practice I took the hesi and got a 100% on the math portion. So you can definitely get a 100% as well :)

As far as the ran numerals they are used in anatomy so a general understanding is required but their was only 2 questions I think about roman numerals and 1 or 2 about military time as well

On a general note....after reading post on these forums I have noticed that a lot of individuals are starting to say that the job market for an ADN new graduate is not the best. Do any of you have a concern about the job market after graduating from an ADN program? Also, do any know how is the job market in the central Texas area for new ADN graduates?
