Temple College 2015

Published

Hello, I just wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for the LVN or RN programs at Temple College for 2015. We can share information, discuss any concerns, talk about the HESI exam, getting cleared through the Board of Nursing, or the just nursing program in general! Those of you that are already in the program are more than welcome to chime in.

PLEASE NOTE: I am in no way taking responsibility for any wrong information given, nor will I moderate this thread. I just want to meet new friends and support one another through the process of applying and getting our acceptance letters!

Turned the ADN application in today! Looks like a lot of people applying already.

What number was your application?

You are so welcome!

12 hour clinicals are for the second year only. However, they changed the curriculum THIS year, so it may have changed a bit. I would have to ask a freshman student monday when i see them :) ill get back to you on that!!

And, clinicals go from 6:45a to 7p on fridays.

The clinicals are at s&w and the va. I know our 12 hour group goes to the continuing care hospital off kegley rd in temple.

Ill get back to you for sure on the clinical stuff monday!! (I know they changed thibgs a bit between last yr and this year, and i dont wanna give u old info!)

Hope u are Having an awesome weekend!

I was in the first 12 on the 24th. When I turned it in on 27th, it looked like a few more pages in the application log were filled out. There were 3 other people there filling out apps just in the 10 minutes while I was there.

Found out for sure that Friday clinicals are for the second year only.

I just asked a freshman student on FB, and scratch the 1st year schedule I gave you. The freshman (as of this semester) follow the same schedule as the sophomore students, but no Friday clinicals

So its:

Mon: 6:45- 11:30 clinical class from 1-3 or 4 **this is our MY last semester, and they changed the hours to 3 right now, and I am guessing it is going to stay that way for everybody)

Tue: 6:45- 3

Wednesday 8-3

Thursday 8-3

Friday: no school, until your 2nd year in which u can do 12 hour clinicals

Sorry it is so confusing. They have switched everything twice since I started last June. But I guess this new change is "official."

Thank you for all the information. It is really helpful to have when discussing it with

my husband.

If you dont mind I have a few general questions about the program that Im wondering

about.

1. How many students are usually accepted into a cohort for the nursing program?

2. I have read some about how the clinicals work for different schools and was

wondering for this program is each student assigned to a nurse and shadow

that nurse at the clinical or is it usually a group of students to one nurse?

3. Concerning the schedule for clinicals....since they do start early in the

morning at 6:45 are students ever allowed to come a little later or is that

something instructors will not even allow?

4. I have been taking some of the pre-reqs and have a regular study group

where I have met others who are interested interested in the nursing program

and one is a guy and I told him that more and more guys are getting into nursing

so he should really think about it as serious option. He was wondering what is usually

the make up of a cohort depending on the number of guys and girls?

Sure thing Lisa!

Ok, so, TC does admission once a year. They usually accept around 60-65 students. I know one of my instructors said my class was one of the biggest, and my class started with 65. Our class now has 82, but thats because us bridgers joined the traditional students last June.

Each instructor gets about 12-15 students for their clinical group. Usually we are each assigned a different nurse, but sometimes 2 of us get one nurse. And we also get sent to different areas frequently, like day surgery, PACU, etc.

No, everyone has to be there at 6:45. If you are going to be more than an hour late to clinical, you cant come at all, and you lose hours for the whole day. You are only allowed to miss about 20-24 hours PER SEMESTER, and once you go over that, you are out of the program. Even Friday clinicals the 2nd year start at 6:45.

We have about 10 guys in our class! In my LVN class there were only 2, so guys are becoming more interested in nursing! Tell him he should consider it!!

Hope this helps!!!

Summer

I applied for ADN on March 2nd, I was number 33. Suddenly May seems light-years away. Good Luck to everyone, hopefully we will all be meeting each other soon. I do have a question, I read that there will be a summer orientation day, does anyone know if that is closer to end of summer (Aug)?

One more question: I would like to go ahead and be cleared by the BON, where on their website do I start that process/how do I set up the background check/drug test?

Thanks, Kate

Hey, do you remember how long it took to get the blue card? I had my fingerprinting on the 25th, starting to get worried...

It took me 2-3 weeks i believe.

I didn't get accepted to the LVN to RN Bridging program! :( But I am an alternate. Does anyone know how it works? Are we ranked for that as well? And does anyone know of anybody actually getting an alternate spot? I'm so bummed!

I turned mine in on the 02/24 after they were sent to the wrong address and then forwarded to me. I am guessing it took no more than 2 weeks for mine.
