Hello, I just wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for the LVN or RN programs at Temple College for 2015. We can share information, discuss any concerns, talk about the HESI exam, getting cleared through the Board of Nursing, or the just nursing program in general! Those of you that are already in the program are more than welcome to chime in.
PLEASE NOTE: I am in no way taking responsibility for any wrong information given, nor will I moderate this thread. I just want to meet new friends and support one another through the process of applying and getting our acceptance letters!
Hi everyone! I have a few questions about the ASN program. I currently live at Fort Polk, LA and I plan on moving to the Killeen area this summer and I am applying to the ASN program. I am receiving my associates in general studies this May from CTC and I have all the prerequisite courses and some of the co-requisite courses. I am only missing Micro and Lifespan. I am taking the HESI exam Tomorrow and I also am in school right now getting my CNA (will be finished in April and will start to work then). Since I do not live in the area right now and am missing just two co-requisite courses and I am also applying later than everyone else (but before the deadline), does any of this lower my chances of getting accepted. After reading some of your comments I started to get discouraged and worried. Anything helps. Thank you all!
Becca.
As long as you apply before the deadline I don't believe that the date you apply will be important if you are a good candidate. There is no harm in applying, except the $40 for the HESI, but you will have atleast tried. I think you should apply, and if you have a good GPA and HESI score I don't see why they wouldn't accept you. I'm not sure how many people have taken all the co-reqs but only missing two co-reqs I think puts you in a good spot depending on your GPA and HESI of course.
I think it's all dependent on the competition per application period. Regardless, 3.5-3.7 GPA is competitive, and that counts for 38% of the admission criteria. A 90%+ Hesi is competitive; that counts for 31%. You want to complete as many credits as you can while also maintaining a competitive GPA; number of credits is 23%. In your case, you may be up against applicants with more courses completed but their GPA may be lower, which counts more. Residency is 8%, so that hurts but it certainly doesn't put you out of the game.
There are many factors to consider. In the end, it doesn't hurt to apply and see what happens.
Hi, guy! I have a question. I have already been accepted into the LVN program, but have taken many of the classes for ADN but not a&p 1&2. I am considering applying for a spot in the ADN program. I have college credits from another college that TC already has my transcripts for. Do I have to have that college send the transcripts again but to the nursing department? I figure I do. I just really do not want to because they took months to come in last time....

Yes, they want official transcripts from all colleges attended, regardless as to whether or not the courses taken (completed or not) apply to the program. I had to give them a copy of my Blinn transcript even though I told them it only has Spanish 2 and Speech on it.
If you haven't completed or are not currently enrolled in at least A&P1, you can't apply to the ADN program this year. The minimum prerequisites are A&P1, General Psychology, and English 1.
This is from the ADN admission requirements webpage:
"2. Enroll in the prerequisite courses. These courses are BIOL 2401 Anatomy & Physiology I, ENGL 1301 Composition I, and PSYC 2301 General Psychology. The 3 prerequisite courses must be completed or in progress during the Spring semester to be able to apply for the Fall semester class. Corequisite courses may be taken prior to acceptance into the nursing program. Students are expected to have basic keyboarding and computer literacy operation skills."
Corequisite courses include A&P2, Micro, Lifespan, and an Elective. You aren't required to complete these before being allowed to apply, but you get more admission points for doing so.
I made an 89.3 on my HESI. Once this semester is over, I will have all of my pre-reqs and co-reqs completed. I have A's in all of those except I am currently taking Microbiology and let's be honest, I will at best receive a B. I also live in district. I was slightly bummed about my HESI, I did well on the reading (94) and vocab (96) and dropped the ball when it came to math (78).
What do you guys think? Do you think this is good enough?

I know there is not going to be a huge demand for a new ADN graduate but I am not worried in my personal situation. You also have to keep in mind that everyone posting as a new ADN and isn't getting a job is posting on here for that reason. So you may see a lot of posts similar to that but is that reflective of the overall market of jobs available for new ADNs? Probably not, everyone that is getting a job is likely not posting about how hard it is to get a job. So the the posts on this site about that aren't overly concerning personally. That being said a quick google search for my area shows several listings for RNs, of course with BSN and experience preferred, but that doesn't mean a new ADN is automatically excluded. That being said I don't share these concerns as this is just a step in my career path before seeking employment.
