Temple College ADN/LVN 2014

Published

I noticed that there has not been a 2014 topic started yet for the Temple College nursing programs. I am getting nervous and want to know if there is anyone out there applying for the same year I am. I will be applying for the ADN and LVN program. So far I have all my pre and co-requisites completed with a 3.76 GPA. I will be taking my hesi test this October, and I also live IN-district. I am nervous and losing sleep over whether or not my scores will be good enough!

Hi all! Congrats to everyone that made it in the programs! I know how exciting and great it must have felt to get accepted!

I have been reading this thread since around begining March and decided to post. I currently go to ACC in Austin. I wanted to apply to the ADN program this year but did not get a good score on the HESI. I didnt study enough time for it and I guess the Math portion killed me on it. By Spring 2015 I will be applying to both ACC and Temple's ADN. I am so nervous and feel like I wont never be able to get in. I will be retaking a couple of courses to make A's in them, I got B's and 1 C before I knew how competitive it was going to be and was a few years ago when my mind was not in the right place lol. I have all my co-req's except for like english II which I can probably finish in the fall. I don't know anyone in the RN program that I can talk to about it. It's so nerve wrecking and I feel like Im getting too old (28 in May)lol.

Sooooo...how was everyones orientation...Summerrrrrrrr lol. And Mz32.. havent checked in on here in a while. My babies are starting daycare Monday!!! Everything is falling in place for NS and im freaking out lol and mlafue01, you are not even close to old haha but i know what you mean. I think weve all been in thay boat of having to wait for the right time. Just hang in there. And i didnt know ACC had a nursing program. I only knew about Temple college in temple and CTC...glad to know there more out there. Like austin and Taylor. Hope everyone is doing well and has a great Easter: )

Hey all!! Hope everyone has been okay! I have been sooooo busy lately!

Orientation was okay, just overwhelming! There are so many things to buy. At least they had my folder ready for me this time! ha The class was really full. There were alot more people there than I thought.. I believe they said they accepted 29? I cant remember, I just know that out of everyone in the class, I knew mz32 and a girl I use to work with while I was pregnant. She is a sweetie. The rest of the people in there, I had NO idea who they were, where they were from, when they graduated, or anything!

The book list is insane. Thankfully, a friend of mine is lending me a few of the books, as she graduated last year. Thats helping me alot. There are like 6 I had to buy, but I used amazon, and got them all for about $250. I am just so ready to start and get this over with.

I hope Jordan gets a call soon. We were missing 2 people at the beginning of orientation. They called out 2 names, and nobody answered. I am not sure if those people ended up showing up or not, I was buy filling out the paperwork and trying to comprehend how on earth I was gonna pay for everything! I also know there are 2 people who are pregnant.. and not that I have ANYTHING against pregnant people, but one is due in August, and I dont see how they are going to be able to NOT miss much time. The announced that you are only able to miss 9 hours in the summer, so, unless the timing happens JUST right on a weekend, I dont see why they couldnt wait again till after the baby was born... and give someone who is NOT pregnant their spot. IDK, I guess thats just me because I have been thru LVN school and we lost 3 people along the way due to pregnancy.. so I know how this will go. Its kinda silly to think u can make all your appointments and schedule your due date around school. Not to mention leaving your newborn baby while you come to class. I wasnt ready to leave either of mine for MONTHS. But like I said, thats just me. I just feel like if you go into school knowing you may need some time off for your baby, you should let someone else have your spot till you are ready.

Im rambling.

And mlafue01, I will be 30 this year. You are never too old to chase your dreams. When I was in LVN school when I was 22, we had a lady who was 55. She was awesome! AND made the best nurse!!! Besides, when you are older and have a lil more experience with life, u tend to take things a lil more seriously! So good luck!!! And welcome to our forum!!!

Summerblessing, I totally agree with you on the pregnancy thing. Yes, you MAY be able to swing it, but I feel like the odds are definitley stacked against you. Maybe they're first time moms haha, I remember before baby was born I had it all planned out. . . Natural birth, BF for at least 6 months etc. Yeah right. . . I had an emerg c-sec, and she started refusing BF at 2 months! You just never know how things will be.

iT was great thank you for asking. Got class schedule and required book list and uniforms. Yes angpatridge Acc has a nursing program as well the LVN, RN, and the bridge program. As matter of fact I had planned to apply there this fall if temple had not accepted me but got lucky and got in. Happy easter to yall.

Summerblessing,

Thank you for responding to me a while back. I have only posted/written once but I have been reading many of your posts(and others too) They are VERY helpful and encouraging! I really appreciated your comment about age. I am 47 and applied to Temple College ADN program. I have no idea if I will get in.

Do you have any current info. on the ADN program beginning in the fall? When should I hear something? Will they send a letter or email? Is Belton considered in district? Someone told me yes and someone else told me no. How many will be accepted for the ADN program?

Thanks again for your great posts!! Please keep it up!!

Thanks! I applied to the ADN program. Praying that I will get in.........are you hearing anything about how high grade point and HESI scores need to be to get in? How many do they accept? Also, how is ADN program different than bridging from LVN? I'm assuming the bridging would be a shorter program?

Hey ladies hope all is well and hello new people I'm sure everyone who applied to the adn is excited that May is almost here! I can't believe school is right around the corner. Are any of you ladies quitting or going part time soon? I think I'm going to go part time midmay

I am just going to work Fridays (maybe) and occasional Saturdays. I am going to take the first 2 weeks off of work though to get into the swing of things.

@kuch3, You are very welcome! :)

Here is what I do know (which isnt a lot! hahaha) The letters for the ADN's go out approximately around May 19. However, they have started doing emails this year. All the "alternates" will get an email the day before the declination emails go out. If you get accepted, you will not get an email. You will get an official letter, as there are forms involved and documents that need to be turned in at your orientation date. In my case, they emailed alternates Thursday, declinations Friday, and I got my letter by Saturday. And I was told that if you live in an area of Belton that pays TC taxes, you are considered in district. I really feel sorry for you Belton people! You gotta pay UMHB AND TC taxes! For once, I am glad I chose Temple! hahaha

The first year ADN students will start in the fall semester. And you go for 2 years. As a bridger, I will start in the summer semester, then be joined with the 2nd year ADN students in the fall. We have to start in the summer to "catch up" with the fall students. However, LVN school is pretty much the same as ADN first year. So no, bridging is not really shorter. Its exactly the same amount of time as going thru ADN, we just had breaks inbetween our years! hehe

As far as I know, ADN school is BIG on GPA. But they only calculate the classes involved with nursing to get your GPA, not your actual college GPA. So, all your prereqs, and your coreqs will go into what they judge only. And the lowest HESI grade I have heard them take is around an 86. If you get an A on your HESI, you can rest easy!

So the countdown begins!! May 19 cant get here fast enough!!
