Tell Us About Your Dream Job

What is your drea, job, where and why?

I am graduating in 3 months and want to work in a NICU, my son was in NICU for 2 weeks due to very low apgars and a cardiac tamponade. I think that this experience will help me give better care to those babies and their families. How about all of you, what got you here and what keeps you going(because we al know it's not easy)

Specializes in LTC,Telemetry,Med/Surg,Psych, Alzheimers.

Although I am not a nurse yet, my main goals are LVN/ADN and then work towards Geriatric nursing. I have worked in nursing homes before and just love working with the elderly.

Specializes in L&D.

My dream job? lol. Ok... I would work L&D M-F 8hr day shifts. No weekends, no holidays. How's that for dreaming?

Specializes in Geri and adult psych, hospice.

My dream job is to work in Hospice with the elderly. I have thought about looking into becoming an NP, but that's a LONG way down the road! I love working with the elderly too, and would love to go into some form of Geriatrics. Lonna

Specializes in Med/Surg..

Like a lot of you, I also plan on going into Geriatrics - at least for awhile. I'm currently the Director of a Senior Center and they are truly the most appreciative bunch of people you'd want to know - thankful for the least little kindness you show them. It's an age group of people who love to tell you their life stories and I know not everyone has the patience or wants to hear about things that happened 60 years ago, but I love it and feel like I'd be suited for working with the elderly in a hospital setting.

Re: The MA being called a Nurse. The Dictionary defines a Nurse as - a person who tends to the sick. So, unless you want to get really technical about it - nothing wrong with her patients calling her Nurse - as long as she doesn't over step her job description as an MA. I was a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy and the Marines always called all of us Corpsman "Doc" - they knew we weren't actual Physicians - just a term they've been using for years - we always answered to it. As long as the BON uses the Nurse Practice Act and not the Dictionary to provide licensure, I think it's a good idea to wait until the piece of paper is in your hand before calling yourself a nurse. ;)

By the way...my dream job is one where I consistently feel appreciated! Preferably in Onc or Hospice. I work in Onc right now, and I have to say, it's pretty close to my dream job! :D

I just started the process of the whole nursing school thing, but I would LOVE to do ER nursing. Just the thought of going home at the end of a shift with the knowledge that someone lived because of something I did is SO rewarding!

Specializes in Home Health Care.

With out going through clinicals, I think my dream job would be a school nurse, or in Long term care, L&D , or maybe home-health . The Ultimate job would have the hours of 8:30-3:00 (Yes, I know I'm dreaming! But it's nice to dream!:D)

Um... no where in her statement did she STATE she was a nurse. She said she was an MA ... sheesh..

Hmmm....... I could see myself in med/surg but with a 4:1 nurse patient ratio. The techs, the aides are all hardworking and not overworked, they are well paid and glad to be there. We are all one big happy family.

Or in NICU where I felt very comfortable in my nursing school clinicals. The nurses felt I should be a NICU nurse but I wanted more knowledge under my belt before taking care of those precious little ones.

Or a nursing school instructor. With great co-workers and a great nursing school director. We would truly want every student to excel and would give much support and motivation. I would develop a program for older students, students with children and or work responsibilities.

Great thread.:)
