TEAS practice test 4 vs.5

Published

I am due to take the TEAS (version 3/4) on June 24th. Anyway, in my preparations to take this, I paid to take the online practice TEAS version 4 and also the practice TEAS version 5. What a difference between the two tests! I found the TEAS 5 to be WAY harder then the TEAS 4, at least in comparing these two practice exams.

Has anyone else taken the two different practice exams? (or am I the only one foolish enough to spend extra money studying for this:uhoh3: )

I though 5 was much harder!!! I got a 56%. Since I got a passing score before (70% overall and 90% in reading) (needed 70% overall and 85% in reading), I hope this new score is not going to count against me. My school takes the highest composite score. Do you think they look at your other scores and take it into consideration? I am told not; what do you think?

You will have to check with your school and ask. In my school, since the newest version of TEAS was being used starting this year, all previous attempts/scores were erased. So now, the will take the "best score" but only from the results from the current version tested.

It's stressful to apply and not make the cut, but still, the TEAS is so much easier than what the actual program will be so it better prepares you (if even slightly) to study and learn the information on version 5. Also, it helps to have taken A&P 1 at least. JMO

Hi!! I didn't want to start a new thread for this question and you guys should know about this...When do I take the Teas exam??? a month before applying for the Nursing program?....or at some other time...I'm not sure how this works....I'll be starting my pre-requisits this fall. Sorry if I'm being ignorant, but I don't want to do things wrong. Thanks :)

YISY4U,

Check with the nursing school you are looking to attend. The school I am hoping to attend requires that you take the TEAS after submitting your application. The TEAS test is a beginning step within the application process. :)

My school is going to use my score from TEAS 4.0. I am in micro right now and all of my other perquisites are completed. I completed most of them 8+ years ago. I know I could get a much higher score with some extra study time. I will know by the end of November if I got accepted. If not, I am scheduled to retake the exam in December. I know a few people who got in with the same scores and a lower GPA, so at least I do have a chance.

I took 5 about a month ago and 4 this morning.

I definitely would say that they made Version 5 a decent amount more difficult and also a great deal more relevant to nursing practice in the science and mathematics sections.

I took the online assessments for both versions and purchased the workbook for Version 5. The online assessments for both versions were not very helpful in preparing me for the exam. For Version 5, skimming the information in the book provided me with more direct answers to questions that appeared on the actual exam.

In the science section, Version 5 had a lot more A&P, scientific reasoning, and chemistry questions; Version 4 seemed like it was all over the place.

In the end, I scored an 86% on Version 5 and a 90% on Version 4. As I mentioned earlier, I took 5 first and there was about a month between the two. I spent a day or two studying for 5 and just took one of the online assessments for 4.

So really the only differences are the science and chemistry sections, do you think I should focus a lot on studying physics for version 5? And from everyones replys it seems like the online assessment is not really worth it? Is there anything on the 5th version that you feel like there was a lot of that I should devote more time to studying like ratios, percents, decimals.. oh and also is there spelling?!

Thank youuuu whoever responds :)

Why'd you take both?

Why'd ya take both in the same month?

hi guys, is it possible to study v5 and still do well on v4 without studying v4?

HEllo everyone, I'm new to this forum. I really need some pointers on taking my teas test, any advice?

Hey @spectacular17! I took the TEAS a few months ago and did really well (ranked 95th percentile in the nation and 90th in my BSN program). Here are a few of my recommendations:

Buy "Study Manual for the Test of Essential Academic Skills" which is the official study manual for the TEAS. It's pretty pricey (~$40), but it's extremely thorough and really gets you ready for the type of questions asked on the test.

Next, before you do any studying, take a practice test. Get a feel for which sections you need to focus on and which sections you don't really need to spend too much time on. I scored my practice test and put in order which sections I needed to focus on. For me it was: English (worst scoring), Science, Reading, and Math (best scoring).

Then, figure out what type of questions you had difficulty on. If you're having trouble with percentages, brush up on percentages. If you're having trouble with noun verb agreement, brush up on that. Look at each question you got wrong on that practice test and figure out which concepts you're having trouble with.

Finally: go ahead and study those concepts! And practice, practice, practice.

The reason I recommend this way is because the TEAS is a content-based exam, and there's way too much content for you to study the book cover to cover. It's also super inefficient if you tried to study every single possible thing the TEAS could cover. So I suggest that you just figure out the topics you're struggling with and focus on those. I gave myself about a month and a half to really prepare for the exam.

Finally: good luck! Remember: what counts is not how smart you are but how persistent you are. :)
