TEAS practice test 4 vs.5

Published

I am due to take the TEAS (version 3/4) on June 24th. Anyway, in my preparations to take this, I paid to take the online practice TEAS version 4 and also the practice TEAS version 5. What a difference between the two tests! I found the TEAS 5 to be WAY harder then the TEAS 4, at least in comparing these two practice exams.

Has anyone else taken the two different practice exams? (or am I the only one foolish enough to spend extra money studying for this:uhoh3: )

I've never taken the TEAS 4 but I took version 5 and I hear it's supposed to be harder.

Just met with my counselor on Tuesday and he said to study for the series 4 Teas... he didn't even mention 5... hmmmmmmmmmm

I just took the practice teas (on the ATI site, not the real teas 5) out of curiosity and to get more practice. I was just surprised how much harder it was.

Why do you think Version 5 was harder? I will be taking Version 5 soon and am very nervous.

I am going to be taking version 5 soon. Any advice on what I should focus on and how I should study for it? Thanks

I am taking 5 this Saturday. I took 4 this past spring. I thought 4 was hard enough. I will post back as soon as I get my score. I would love a heads up as well.

I took V. 4 last year and then took V. 5 this year.. V. 5 is more difficult... and V. 4 was difficult also. I think any generalized test like that is - there's just so much to study and try to prepare for. V. 5 had more A&P type questions, and V. 4 had (in my opinion) extra crap questions like what kind of rock and cloud the description was. I did buy the study guide for both versions and only skimmed through the V. 5 one. I scored lower on 5 than I did on 4, however I was accepted into my program because EVERYONE scored lower. So the score I did get was pretty decent in comparison to the rest of the people who took it. There are chemistry questions on both versions - I was never good with the periodic table and did not take a Chem course in college, my course from High School was good enough. I would recommend buying the study guides. With V. 4 I believe you bleive 2 attempts at the practice test included in your purchase if you buy from ATI.com however, with V. 5 the study guide and 2 different versions of the practice test must both be purchased separately. I say check eBay if you are only looking for the study guide itself. I actually need to put my V. 5 on there.. it's collected dust and it cost $50 shipped!

Make sure you take the correct pre-test, every school is using a different version still. I was in the first group l had to take V. 5 so it was new to all of us and we couldn't ask previous test takers what to expect!! :)

May I ask what you got on both?

I bought my v4 last year and now my school has changed to v5. I returned the book and got a refund. YES v5 is much harder than v4. The book has doubled in size. I dont know how to study all of this info. I bought extra books for each topic. I have no choice but to Ace this test to be accepted. So your not the only one!!

Hi Kt2012Grad,

Do you remember if there were some of the same questions between 4 and 5? I passed 4 but I want to improve my score. If there are a few of the same questions, I would feel better about it.

I do not remember my scores for each test. But, since most programs (to best of my knowledge) are competitive, the score you get doesn't automatically guarantee your entrance/denial into the program for which you are applying.

And, I found that since V. 5 is so new and more difficult, everyone's scores were lower in general. So an overall score in the 70% range (I think I had 76% or so, not sure) may be good enough to get in. Also, each school grades the TEAS differently so it's important to know which parts your school will focus on for entrance. Mine was concerned with the Reading score and Composite Score only. As well as how many pre-reqs I had completed as well as my GPA for a select group of classes.

The Reading and English portion are the same as V. 4 from what I recall. The only major difference I remember is that V. 5 has made changes to the Science portion - which really makes sense since it is a Science based program.

I got in after 2 tries, my school said that normally aprx 600 students apply for entrance. Since there was word that V. 5 TEAS was more difficult, only about 330 students applied the 2nd time I took it. This worked to my advantage since it was a much smaller pool of people to place in the top 85 of. And, that scores were lower in general so the decrease in % from the first time I took it didn't hurt my chances.

The only advise is to just get a TEAS study guide for the version your school is testing with and just go through it and practice, practice, practice.. It is a ton of information, however, it is only a sliver of what we will be expected to learn and test on once in the Nursing program.
