TEAS EXAM

Published

Hello Everyone! My name is Kelli and I would like to introduce myself to the allnurses.com community! I am taking my TEAS exam on Jan. 28th and I need all of the advice I can get regarding the TEAS exam. I am taking the exam at Cal State and I need a score of 70 percent. How can I do this? I am worried because it has been about 10 years since I took a standardized exam. I am a straight "A" student with a 4.0 GPA. How have you all passed the TEAS and got into the school of your dreams? I am trying to get a BSN degree. I have been studying the ATI testing manual and I took the practice exam at ATI and scored an 80 percent. What else do you suggest I can do these final few days before the exam? What were your experiences with the TEAS exam? Thank you SOOOO much. This information you can share with me means the world to me.

PS-I am studying for the TEAS by myself. Nobody I know is taking it yet!:nurse:

Hi ladyoj69!

THANK U sooooo very much for your posting! Very informative! You are kind enough to jot down enough info. that gives me a better understanding of what to expect. I so wish I were able to send you a PM but since I've just registered the other day, I don't have enough postings yet ( I guess I need 15???) anyway thanks again!

Wish me luck next month on my exam!!!

Dear Mistymall,

You will do great! I was just adding up some science ?'s that I think I got right. I am at about 17 questions right! If so, then that is good enough for me cuz maybe I got a few more right than I thought so! I remember if you have the ATI book there was a question about specific heat and the question had to do with the amount of kilocalories, the question is like the question on page 148 #9 EXACTLY! And I remember to know the Independent and Dependent variables and the control group. Also know Chem a bit, they ask you about ionic/covalent bonds, and a few ?'s on Anatomy-like the function of RBC's, a photo of the Respiratory system, a picture of tectonic plates. Math was really simple stuff, like adding and subtracting. Just take your time. I had to Guess at ONLY ONE QUESTION FROM the math and that was on probability. had no clue on how to do that. I am skimming through the ATI book for some math problems to study for: Mean, median and mode, page 78, 2 and 3, page 80 but with medical equipment instead of food, a few proportions, algebraic expression like what does x equal to. Also, if you can nail the ati Math section, you will nail the ATI math exam! The ATI book for the math part is much harder then the actual ATI TEAS exam at least on the math part.

Thank you for the kind words. That means alot to me! You are a great person too! I would do the same for anyone because this forum has helped me out a toN! Also, start timing yourself at home as well. This came in handy for exam day cuz the clock was not a burden for me! I saw a lot of others struggling to finish though, cuz they probably didn't time themselves at home. I took the Math section out of the book like five times and the math section on the TEAS was no biggie! I promise!

SORRY FOR THE LENGTH>>

well..i took my exam today....it was soooooo easy!!!!! i can't remember the questions too much, but i expected worst! the english (55 questions)and reading portions were no brainers, i'm sure that i got less than 4 wrong!!!! thanks to you guys and chem4kids.com, i was very comfortable taking the science portion(30 ?'s) :heartbeat. if i got any wrong, i think it was only a few if not fewer. the craziest thing happened to me last night! i had a series of nightmares involving science! i was apart of the consumer cycle where i was picked up by an eagle, lol!!.......:rolleyes:i can't remember what the other parts were but i woke up about 3 more times after that. >>with all of that good news and funny events....i have bad news. :crying2:. i ran out of time on the math section (45questions) .:down::down::down::down::down::down::down::crying2: i have no idea:uhoh3: why i sat there and did that. i really disappointed myself and i felt completely inadequate and wanted to walk out and leave. unbelievable!!!!! i feel like crap b/c it was rather easy and knew how to do most of it, but i spent too much time writing out my calculations. i was so worried about the science that i halfheartedly prepared for the math. i don't know the passing score for my school since this is their 1st time giving this exam. sooooo.....? idk........idk.

So my resolution to this is:

1.) i can retake it in a few weeks, which is good because i know wut to expect.

2.) I have time now to buy the ATI STUDY MANUAL. yay!!! the ATI practice assessment is EXACTLY like the actual test, just like u guys said!

3.) i will time myself when i practice!

4.) i will make sure that i neatly write on my scratch paper b/c i had it looking a mess!! lol.

so, that's my experience...i digress. ttyl. pray for me.

Oh no Naturalrays, sorry to hear you ran out of time on the math portion. I am taking my test in a little over a week. I'm really going to have to start timing myself. Do you know what version of the test you took? I took version 5.0 practice test online and I think I am going to buy the second one also. I hope it helps. I am just so worried about science even though it's only 30 questions. Ugh. Well I hope you did great on your test and let us know what your score is when you get it. Good luck to everyone on here!

LOL! Nightmares about the TEAS! OMGoodness! LOL! Glad you feel more comfortable about it though. Was yours on a scantron too? So sorry that you were unable to finish. How many questions did you make it through in the math section? Maybe your score will still be a passing one though since the other sections weren't a problem for you. They tell you to spend one minute per question on the Math section to avoid running out of time. Also, a lot of the math questions have shortcuts that require very little writing on your part. So as you study the manual, start to look for simple ways to solve the problems with the least amount of writing. For example, I had the question, "What is 1.22 * .51?" You don't have to multiply this out; notice that 0.51 is about 50% and 50% of 1 is 0.5. So your answer should be a little more than 0.5 since 1.22 is a little more than 1. The options I had were 0.7122, 0.6222, 0.8109, 0.3428. Clearly the answer would be 0.6222. You see what I mean? So just take lots of math practice tests to increase your speed and you should be good!

thanks for that tip! if i need to retake it, i will definitely use that. i also think i may go through and answer all the questions that don't need as much simplifying and then return to the others(if that makes sense). i hope i correctly understood the picture of the tectonic plates, b/c it lacked descriptions(in my opinion). OMG!!! THE mRNA coding question and the specific heat, can someone plz tell me the easiest way to find the code i didn't know the specific heat question, the minute/second question. i think i answered the probability question right... i should find out my score 2morrow and if i bombed on the math, i will purchase the ATI study manual. i had the scan-tron 3.0/4.0 version of the test.

this site need to be in the ati manual .....

serisously, this is helping me soo much .

Does anybody know how to solve this one:

"1st year you had 848 clients, 2nd 1078. What was increase in %?"

1078-848/ 848 = .27 = 27 percent increase.
