I have not seen a thread yet so I thought I would get one going for those applying for this Spring.
Welcome! It's good to have someone else wait out this eternity that TCC calls 45 days!Hi everyone how can I follow this thread? I applyed to the nursing program for spring 2013 and im loving this thead.
I'm not sure one can "follow" this thread beside checking it periodically. However, If someone HAS discovered a way to receive alerts, please share.
Monica, how did you do on the HESI and what is your GPA if you don't mind? That seems to be the most commonly asked question here.
Hi, I'm new to this thread and thought I'd share my experiences and encouragement for anyone who is interested.
I am married (16 yrs) with 3 kids. I applied to TCC's nursing program back in 2009 and was accepted, but I did not accept the spot for personal family reasons. I continued taking pre-reqs for UTA's BSN program and have applied 3 consecutive times at UTA with no success. I don't remember what my science GPA was but I had As in micro & chem and Bs in A&P I&II. My HESI score is a 96. Obviously, my science grades weren't competitive enough at UTA; so I retook my A&PI this past summer and made an A. I've brought my science GPA up to a 3.8 and my HESI remains a 96. I will continue to reapply at UTA, but I just applied for TCC's spring 2013 program and was told by the advisor that I should have no problems getting in. I heard that from a UTA advisor before, so I don't put much into that since they really don't know what the cohort competition looks like until after the app period. That said, if you are applying for your first time or your fifth time, don't give up. Especially, don't let a denial define you as a student or as the nurse you will be. If you can raise your grades, do it. Just don't stop trying. No patient lying on a gurney asks the people who are saving their lives if they were A students or B students.
While I was continuing my nursing pre-reqs at UTA, I worked for an emergency room doctors group. One of the docs was a nursing graduate from TCC years ago before going on to med school. While he was a nurse, he managed a local ER and explained that he hired nurses who were licensed, not necessarily ADNs or BSNs. He also said that, while the industry is moving to BSN requirements, it is not the end-all yet. This encouraged me to go ahead with getting my ADN and work towards my BSN. A friend of mine graduated in Dec 2011 from TCC's program and was able to find a job at Cook Children's. It took her a few weeks longer than she expected, but she was able to do well. Within 6 months, she was offered her dream job and is quite happy.
Not sure if any of this is helpful, but good luck to everyone who applied and will be applying in future periods!

Hi there and welcome! I too am married and have 3 kids so nursing school will be a challenge! This is my first time applying and I am anxiously awaiting acceptance. Im glad to know there will be others in the program like me who waited a little later in life to follow their dreams! Good luck and I look forward to meeting you at orientation!
